Check out the book Models by Mark Manson. It is a very good book on how to get good with girls.

And yes simply start approaching girls and learn as you go.

OK, you should do the newbie mission. Go to a mall or crowded place and whenever a woman walks by all you do is say hi, make eye contact, smile and that's it. You don't have to say anything more than that. This will get you comfortable approaching and talking to random strangers. It'll feel a little weird at first but you get used to it.

Start going to Meetup events ( find groups that you are interested in or close to your hobbies). Forget about girls at this point. Get yourself in the habit of talking to strangers.

Once you get comfortable , then you start approaching women. Take it one step at a time.

I don't like doing cold approach so I took some Salsa lessons. It's a good way to learn how to lead women by touch and taught me how to comfortably escalate. You meet a lot of women and you can go out together in groups.

Good hobby
Gets you a social circle
You get comfortable being physically close to women that you are not yet intimate with.
It is a fun hobby
The drawback is that it takes a lot of time to learn and get good and it can be an expensive hobby depending on where you live and how expensive classes are.

It is not a substitute for game but it help build into the fun lifestyle.

The "GAME" you speak of is not what you think. The "GAME" is working on yourself and improving yourself to the point that women are naturally attracted to you. A byproduct of the game is having enough confidence to effortlessly strike up a conversation with a cute girl in public. I'm going to lay out the groundwork for the game.

The Game 1) Love thyself: Ask yourself what makes you happy? What hobbies do you like? What fires you up? Then fucking do those things. 2) Build thyself: Do something everyday that improves your physical well being and then do something that builds your mental well being. Exercise and meditation work for me. 3) Set fucking goals. You can't become a fucking winner in life without having goals. Write them down and put them in a place you have to look at the everyday. 4) Once you've gotten to the point that you love yourself so much that it doesn't matter how women react to you, then my friend, you are ready to approach women.

Also, don't go to fucking bars to meet women. Go to bars to have a good time with your friends.

Start by getting used to talk to strangers. When you go to the grocery store, talk to the cashiers, do smalltalk. Work your way up from there, go approach women when you see them and do smalltalk. Your goal is not to pick them up, but to get you to the point where you are not afraid of approaching and get some experience in what works and what doesn't.

I generally see people who are shy to dating start like this:

Level 1: Online Dating

Level 2: Meetups / Events / Community Events

Level 3: Cold Approaching

Most of the time, you end up meeting enough suitors as you get deeper into level 2, and even start building your name up in various social groups / communities.
