I stayed in because I didn't know what was going on. Not being in the mood didn't help. This is a complete waste of a night unless I figure out a way to help make sure it doesn't happen again.

This is my usual process for figuring out what to do. Please help me improve it. I'm sure others can also benefit.

  1. Ideally I will have already been invited to something, planned a date, or planned a party / event. This is not very common.
  2. Look on FB events and suggested events for anything interesting
  3. Text 3-5 friends who I've hung out with recently enough to be comfortable texting to see what they're doing
  4. Look on calendar which has some other tech / entrepreneur calendars synced in it
  5. Look on FB news feed to see if I'm missing something
  6. Meetup.com
  7. Call a friend and just go to some local bar and have a depressingly tame time. Stand around eyeing girls and don't actually talk to them.
  8. Find nothing intriguing, stay home and feel really shitty for not going out. This is what happened tonight.

So, how / where do you guys learn about events / parties / things to do? Do you have a default plan for when there's nothing specifically going on a certain night? How can I get more unsolicited invites to more things? How do I plan an event and limit the chances that not enough people will show?
