I strongly feel like I need to practice cold approach but I don't want to be that weird guy on campus, especially because I live here.

It's a pretty closed environment and there are startingly few degrees of seperation, even in a school of 30,000 kids. As far as the dorm comlex only a few thousand, you see the same faces everyday.
