Well, yes and no. yes, it will affect your reputation, (regardless of whether you're successful or not), allow me to explain, if you're successful all the time, girls are going to think you're a sleazeball but if you're not successful they're gonna think you're a loser. On the other hand, who cares dude, the only way you're going to get better is to practice and college is a really good place to practice, plus, once you graduate you're never going to see these people again soooo

Same rules as highschool.

The cool kids rarely approached, the girls would chase them. Even when they did approach, their reputation was never negatively impacted.

the cool kids were literally cool...they were calm minded and didn't care about outcomes. They were the opposite of "try hard".

It's ok to approach as long as you are normal and don't get excited about it. You are introducing yourself to a human being and taking nothing more from it than good conversation unless more is offered. As long as you ain't weird you can maintain a positive rep.
