Have a few go-to questions ready for if this happens.

"How is your career going? What do you do?"

"When you're not busy "doing that career" what do you like to do in your free time or for fun?"

“Are you close with your family?”

These are questions I typically ask when I get stuck. They can lead to long conversations about career, fun activities, and family.

The routines/scripts/gambits are doing the job.

For example, you see a girl at a bar/club/restaurant, you start an invitation to talk "Hey, how's it going?" now it is up to her if she wants to talk to you or not, but if she says something you have the perfect opportunity to continue: "I was going to XYZ club/bar/restaurant and I ended up here, but on the street I saw a guy ..... [insert funny story]" - You have broken the ice, you have made her smile, so theoretically she will tell you something, otherwise you can try again for the last time: "I saw your bracelet/necklace/ring/shirt... it reminds me of [... insert another funny story], if the girl is still silent, you found the wrong girl, better leave if there is no smile, nothing, otherwise she will see you are there to have fun and will enter your vibe.

Because she is a stranger, you have nothing in common to talk about, you need to talk about neutral things as I said above and slowly move the conversation toward her: "you look like you're a teacher.... no? Hold on, three guesses... you are a banker... no? Give me your hand, now I will guess... spin around.... hmmm you look like .... [say whatever you want because it doesn't matter if you are right or not" - and now she will tell you her job. After all these things, if there is no smile and she does not comply, then let her go, she is a boring person - it's not worth trying. If she spins around, now you can start talking about dancing or yoga especially if she is slim/fit. ... and now you have a few subjects to talk about.

Just learn this script and you will see that it is very easy to start and continue a conversation - modify it as you wish and as it fits your personality (keep a playful vibe, it will help you later for escalation - even if you are rejected, it will not affect you, but you will also look better in her eyes by accepting a rejection like it is nothing).

Practice... And get out of your head. Don't try to hold up a facade. Don't think about outcomes. Just focus on being laid back, authentic, and vulnerable. Maybe try chatting with some random people. Old people are easy. Work on your conversation skills before worrying about your flirting skills. It will come with time when you start to see yourself differently.

There is en emphasis these days on natural game and freestyling and I think this is a mistake. If you just started learning social skills you should have specific topics, a conversation structure and even scripts when necessary.

A simple structure would be : comment + question.

Practive some humorous mini routines and things that you can easily recall in set. Stuff that you find funny.

Also build up your observational skills so you can read things about her by observing her.

But really it all comes down to increased exposure.
