Moving cities into an apartment building with other students, how to make friends quickly?

I'm in nearly the same position, and hopefully this thread will explode a bit to give me some more ideas.

If I were you however, id host a apartment party asap. Inviting any college tenants you meet/live near. It would go a long way to gaining a social circle and having a good influx of potential women to date.

Eye contact. Smile. Talk to everyone.

Good money some of the people in the building will be new too. If not in your building, in your classes. Just like freshman year. Once you have a decent base of friends, you can start to spread out.

Acquire beer and snacks. Invite people over for beer and snacks.

Remember the other people moving in for college are in the same boat as you. Move-in day is a great time to introduce yourself. You'll also probably see a lot of your neighbors around. I met a lot of people just because we shared the same route to the bus stop or to class or whatever.

One important thing to keep in mind. If you see someone often (waiting for class, at a cafe, whatever) you have reason to just say "hi, blah blah blah I've seen you here before"

As well as hosting a party, or going to somebody else's party, it should be easy enough to approach everyone you see moving in with the 'so you're new here too? Lets explore the city' line. Get a group together. Be seen as the leader who brought everyone together. Go for coffee with everyone.

Keep your door open and a tin of biscuits in your room. Everyone is excited when somebody new arrives, and love it if you're welcoming.

I was in the same position when somebody moved into my halls 2 weeks before summer exams ... Everyone on my floor was excited to see who it was. He turned out to be a good lad because he smiled a lot and was always positive.

Host a party. A good one. Move In day just go door to door and say "hey I'm op, I'm apartment 4-a. I'm having a party tonight's come on over!

You can have a BBQ, party, anything. Just show everyone you're awesome an they will want to be around you.
