One of the central tenets of seduction has always kind of bothered me. Please let me know if any of you have thought the same things and how you worked through it:

If you reduce your emotional investment in a particular outcome, doesn't that by its very nature reduce the satisfaction of a successful close? If that's the case, doesn't that more or less defeat the purpose of pickup?

If I compare emotional investment in a particular set to the emotional investment in a TV show, it's like the difference between seeing a spoiler for a show that you're a huge fan of and seeing a spoiler for a show you have never seen and have no interest in ever seeing. If I actually don't care what this girl thinks of me, then why should it feel good when she digs me? I mean, sure it strokes the ego a bit, but it's not anywhere near the same feeling as when you were a teen in high school and that girl you've been crushing on for years agrees to go out on a date with you.

So then you're stuck between being fake by pretending you're outcome independent when you really aren't or being anesthetized. Women see right through you when you're being fake, so it's probably not effective except for a small group of usually undesirable women. So the only possibility then is being this detached guy that doesn't truly get excited by women, which attracts them but the thrill is gone.

In essence, you can either be fake and lose the "game" or be detached and "win" but only on a technicality--not the same feeling as actually winning.
