Try thinking of something funny, don't laugh, just let yourself smile. It looks really natural. It matters most what you like when you make eye contact. That's what people remember. Unless you hang out together a lot, they don't really notice your default look because you're talking and interacting, and hopefully you're animated and engaged. That's the impression you make. Don't worry about it too much, just make sure you break your look when you make eye contact. It can be really subtle. Don't smile like for a family portrait. I think of it as a chuckle smile. It's the level just below chuckling to myself.

you probably only feel like you look like a jackass. I think a point thats lost is that we know what are motives are and are aware of every stupid thing we do. In reality most people are not paying that close of attention to you and things that you might focus on they mostly just let slide.

Looking serious / even angry isn't necessarily a bad thing. Just make sure when you speak to women, you relax your face, and keep a good energy, cocky/funny type thing going and they won't care what you look like. I have some friends who look like actual trolls who have no problem with women.

A playful, mysterious half smile, like I know something she doesn't, works wonders for me. I save the big smile for just after I've established eye contact, and it's a slow smile.

Stop smoking cigs, if you do. They make the face grow mean looking from all the constant inhaling if you smoke a pack a day. If you don't smoke cigs, try weed, it makes you happier and laugh more.
