It's a pseudoscience. Plus, The Game is a novel with likely a good deal of exaggeration to make the book more entertaining. It was written for a general mainstream audience, not PUA dorks.

To me it looks like they used what Ross Jeffries says in his book "Speed Seduction" because they were friends with Ross Jeffires.

Hypnosis is pretty basic. You can learn the methods in many different books. Just search for books on the topic. It's unclear whether hypnosis is "real" or if some people are just extremely gullable (so delude themselves into thinking it's real) or playing along because they want to please the hypnotist.

There also seems to be a huge difference in how susceptible people are to it. Some are "easy to hypnotize" and others impossible.

One thing that's necessary though, is that the person must be open to being hypnotized. You will never be able to hypnotize someone that isn't open to it.
