responses to "you're funny aren't you"

Or oh you think you're funny? And they say it with a smirk so I know they actually thought it was funny as well.

I get this a lot of times when I'm making assumptions and jokes. And I've tried a couple different responses like, Ehh I try, only sometimes, well gee thanks in a playful tone, yeah I think so.

And the reception has always gone down from the joke. It's never killed an interaction but I know there are better things I could be saying and figured I should ask here because I'm sure I'll hear it again.
