AFAIK yes, The Game was the book that revealed to the world there is those guys called pick-up artists who theorize and practice the art of picking up girls. For many guys it was an eye-opener, telling them that it's not "some guys have it, others don't, and you can't change that," but rather that you can actually go from zero to hero on the seduction scale.

And while the book is great for that eye-opening purpose, it's very much embellished and better read as reality-based fiction. First reason why it was embellished was to appeal to the masses: the claim that he was an average Joe doesn't hold if you consider he was a journalist for the NYT, Rolling Stones and had hung out with people like Marilyn Manson, Motley Crue and Jenna Jameson; and any serious gamer knows that most of the game is spent being rejected, whereas the book make it sound like Strauss could pick up anybody he wanted. Second reason, the book was an ad for Neil Strauss to sell his own methods (IIRC he sold a series of $2000 pick-up DVDs and a manual after publishing The Game).

If you read Mystery's forum posts that introduce negging, he clearly states negging is equivalent to talking to a girl as you'd talk to your little sister. You don't put your sister on a pedestal, and you don't hesitate to bust her balls, albeit in a tender way, with no cruelty.

Mystery wanted to contrast that approach to the attitude of guys kneeling in front of the girl they approach at a bar, always complimenting and always compliant. However, somehow along the way guys misunderstood negging as "you need to insult the girl to lower her self-esteem so she knows she's not better than you," and people against pick-up picked on that to claim how manipulative and mysoginistic pick-up is.

Looks, wealth and being a white guy help quite a lot in game. That being said, the vast majority of guys, whoever they are and whatever they have, can achieve a result they'd be happy with, provided they put enough work in what they can change. What most people do however, is to try a little, fail, get burned, and blame their failure on external factors (I'm not good-looking, I'm too old, I'm an Indian guy...). Hence why a lot of guy would rather believe it's all about looks (or being white) than go through the pain of failing again and again to become good.

My take on that is, some guys see Western women as caricatures of feminism. They believe most Western women see themselves as good, pure, oppressed and in need of empowerment, and men as evil, base, predatorial. They see Western women as entitled, asking for respect and admiration but looking down on men, asking for equality but also to be courted traditionally, man asks out, man pays for dinner.

My answer to whoever believes women are like that is, you're spending too much time on the internet. Slap shut your laptop, get out, talk to real people; you'll see there's still plenty of girls out there who are not that caricature of feminism.

Western women have a reputation of being shallow, superficial, entitled. There seems to be an excess of selfies, tik tok videos, and single moms.

Throw in "Toxic Masculinity and Me Too". Other parts of the world appreciate men instead of painting them as pedophile rapists.

Western women are great. White women are God's gift to man. I've been with girls from more conservative cultures and its totally different. They resist having sex, they feel guilty, they arent great in bed etc. Western women are sexually liberated, but they are still selective. It gotta be said when you see the shit I've seen from the women I've fucked, it don't really make sense to marry one of these women lmao. Like marriage is something that really ties up a man, and for what? Girl better be bringing a lot to the table. In the east, marriage makes sense you know? Far fewer sluts willing to fuck you, and the girl will be a good housewife, never been with anyone else, will never leave you, never take your kids away, is unlikely to cheat. In the west it makes no sense for a man im sorry.

I'm just going to address the first point here.

A lot of what happened in The Game was basically fake or massively exaggerated. It was a marketing trick. The author used it to get plenty of men to buy his course after they read it. He had a really big financial motivation to lie.

Unfortunately a lot of men at the time with no experience believed it was real, and developed toxic beliefs that made this journey a lot harder for them.

Thankfully most guys of the new generation don't waste their time reading The Game. So eventhough there might still be some guys who mistakenly believe in it, I think as time goes on, there will be less and less of them.

From what I've noticed about this sub, most guys are against The Game, and recommend reading Models by Mark Manson. Which is a great book, and healthy direction this sub is going in.

The book The Game keeps coming up in all the stuff I've read and the author Neil Strauss. Was he basically this average guy who ended up getting a lot of girls through 'game'... did he popularize the whole concept. That book and the author seem like big deals. Is this correct...What do you think of the book and the author. I googled his pic and didn't find him terrible looking or anything.

Neil managed to simplify pick up for the masses. For anyone starting out with no idea of where to begin his book is a great starting point.

As to what I think, his book was instrumental for me when I began.

The whole 'negging' thing I understand but I think you have to be super careful about it. One time a guy told me that it takes a type of girl to appreciate the beauty of a 'unique face.' He clearly wanted to get with me lol but it was just awkward as a compliment or an insult.

Women are accustomed to guys self editing themselves around them so when a guy "negs" its almost like shock therapy. It commonly goes wrong though as most guys dont really believe in the neg and when the girl responds back they have no clue where to go next.

I know some people are skeptical of the whole game thing because they think it all comes down to looks. Is that a common view... I think it's wrong in any case.

The problem is many guys confuse what we find attractive in women to be the same thing girls like in guys. Looks dont hurt but they let you cut the line at best. Guys find this hard to comprehend until they start to have success. I certainly was on the "looks are everything" train until I realized it's just one aspect to seduction and not even the most important one.

Some of you also seems to think that non-white men don't have a chance. Is this a common view as well...

It's more of the fact that we non white guys are in transition, figuring it out in real time. Theres not many dudes to refer to so many nonwhite/black guys despair.

Most of the first generation of guys giving out advice were for white guys and lacked some cultural nuances.

For example as an Asian guy I always got more value from black guys than white guys simply because black guys understood sterotypes play a role in how women perceive you and didnt use it as an excuse.

I see a lot of comments critical of 'Western women.' I do not quite get what the issue is here.

Problem with western women is basically they choose men based off the traditional model but arent traditional themselves.

In short it's a bad deal for men esp those of us that live in the west.

So many men have to figure how to live under this new system. Some rail against it, others like myself figure out how do I survive and get the best deal I can under it.
