"The Game" - Worth the read?

It's okay to read if you view it as entertainment and don't take it too seriously. I think much of the book is exaggerated.

Do you honestly think that just because you read something, it changes your personality beyond your control? If you don't want to "become a robotic douche bag," simply don't. Do you really lack control over your actions?

The Game is a great choice for learning the gestalt of pickup. Everybody seems to want to heap piles of hate on it, but as a short, enjoyable foray into what the process of learning pickup looks like, you just can't beat it.

It's well-written, which pretty much nothing else in the seduction literature is (in fact, most of it is barely literate shit), it's honest about the one-dimensional nature of some of the guys participating in it and the lack of knowledge many "experts" actually have, and it's got a lot of interesting field reports woven into it.

It's flaws are that it's old hat at this point, and most of the routines are thoroughly played out...but after the first week or two, you shouldn't be using canned material you found on the web or in a book, anyway (if you do used canned routines, they should be of your own devising).

I recommend everyone interested in learning game read it. You will learn some things, you will laugh quite a bit, and you will come away realizing that some amazing things are possible, even for skinny nerdy guys like Strauss (or chubby nerdy guys, or whatever the case may be; the lack of great looks doesn't mean you can't date hot girls, and this book provides ample evidence of that).

If reading one book would instantly turn you into a robotic douchebag then you had no control over yourself... It also requires a lot of dedication and willpower to become one :)

It's not a PUA handbook. Read it as an interesting story and you'll probably enjoy it.

It was what got me interested in the pick up arts. Since you're already interested it may not be for you.

If you want to know if the material you hear people using works and has been tried and tested, or hear about where the material has stemmed from, and history of the players then it might be worth a read.

It's an interesting and engaging story, but if all you're looking for is to improve your game then it may not be for you.

Just FYI, we get that shit all the time here, and repeating it won't make you a lot of friends on this forum. I understand you're new, and it's the stereotype, but really, it's tiresome. In reality, most of the guys here are interesting, vibrant dudes who are a whole lot of fun to hang out with, "gaming" or not. Well, at least I know I am.

(It's also free).

TBoP is a much better source of wisdom than anything written on "pick-up".
