Just passed by a cute girl in a cafe. Couldn't quite catch the title on the page she was studying. On the way back, I saw that it said "emplois en hebergement".

I know what that word means. But I wondered what would happen if I asked her what it meant. So I tried, and I learned something. (positive reaction, no real interest)

This is somewhat new for me. Before, I would have thought "if I ask her about that word, will it work? Should I say something else? What's the best thing to do here?"

Those aren't useful questions. They don't give you feedback. Talking to her, saying anything, that gets you feedback. You learn from feedback.

Feedback gives you a sense of what works, and what doesn't. You can improve on the fly. You figure out what works best for YOU.

Saw a girl with tattered leggings the other day. Walked up and said "excuse me, did you know your clothing is full of holes?". Ended up getting her number.

I had no idea if that would work. But I know what wouldn't have worked: saying nothing, while I debated what was the best thing to say.
