Video games (especially online multiplayer)

Nope. I've played video games my whole life, hasn't stopped me from having sex. I'm 20 btw. Gaming is an easy way to waste time and most large games facilitate it with their unlocks/ranking up/reward mechanisms, however the game itself is not the underlying problem. The problem is the individual's lack of self-control and motivation to forgo the quick, easy satisfaction of the game for something more fulfilling. In one sense games are designed to promote continuous repeated playing, but I feel like the kind of people that waste their life on games would still be wasting their life even if games didn't exist.

That's it isn't it. Really.

I mean I have some fairly geeky hobbies - but you look at some pro people who are very successful in life Elon Musk, bunch of PUA folk, metallica, etc. I wonder how many of them have spent 4hrs (let alone 4+hrs/day) levelling up a warlock? I wonder how many of them watch porn, and jack off to /r/rule34.

My guess is none. The big bang theory really does seem to satirise this whole lifestyle well but adds some bullshit hope that some hot blonde will fall into their lap and everything will work out - to appeal to peoples sense of hope of good fortune.

The fact is this:

I spend too much time watching youtube
I spend too much time reading shit on the internet
I spend too much time on steam chatting to people (my friends list has now dropped to 18 people and most of them I know IRL - so that's getting better.

But you know, I still get shit done just not as much as I could if i beasted myself. I've suffered from the same effect - age 17, in that year I suspect i must have met... less than 10 new girls that year. Who is surprised that I didn't get laid? or a GF? Not I.

That said, multiplayer, etc, makes videogames more mainstream because people can still talk and socialise with their friends. And even thebasement dwelling imbeciles can at least justify lying to themselves a bit about being social. "My clan has 30 people... and I know all of them really well - we have one girl in the group and she talks to me about all her personal life. We are so close that she even told me about the time her boyfriend at the time fucked her in the ass and she loved it ^{_^"} - lame.

The main problem with video games - and they are fun, and in some cases have great stories that should be explored. They're cool as a thing - is that it just skews the population to be droning under-skilled bitches that can't muster any will or effort to stick at something for more than a few minutes at a time.

Find a hardcore gamer that reads a lot or works on projects that involve time/investment. find another that has invested a lot of time in to learning something awesome like... being awesome at wrestling etc. IF the person is a hardcore gamer you can pretty much guarantee that the other parts of hteir life are minimal effort, low-investment, shallow and superficial.

Any hardcore gamers without those qualities are pretty few and far between.

One of my best friends is a very well known shout caster and has loads of success with women. Maybe he has skewed my perception of gamers though.

Video games and antisocial guys go hand in hand but I don't think it's screams low status/masculinity. As long as it isn't an intrusive staple of your life, playing video games won't cause any problems, and in moderation they can be pretty fun for you and your s/o

Its all a question of how much time your spend doing it. You can lead an awesome social life but still game from time to time. But of course its pretty easy to get lost in games.

Playing 4 hours of whatever is way more relaxing than going out there and try to chat up women.

While games are not the problem at its core they do make it really easy to isolate some people.
