I don't directly start with the name, I first say something on the lines of "Alright how about you throw the drink at me, and then we can start this whole flirting thing" (I'm in bar/pub/party), pause for half a second and then go for the name and what not.

What else do I talk about to keep it light and enjoyable? What have you used?

I am in a bar and the last thing anyone wants to talk about is about their jobs and dreams and goals and what not.

One is compliments for sure, but apart from that, is there a solid, yet silly/light conversation route I can take.
