It's been mentioned before as opening group sets that include males to open to them first to break down their defenses and give them the idea you pose no threat.

American temporarily in Korea I found it really amusing to interact with nearly every male in a bar (not too large places, clubs can work but not as optimally) before approaching any female. Korean culture makes them males less (by American standards) "Alpha", and they will generally immediately accept you. It's also enjoyable for me because I can easily interact with males (I get the impression this is the sub consensus) with simple things like singing along to the song playing, trying out not-so-good dance moves, or even just introducing myself, quick conversation, and (this may be frowned upon) buying him a drink. They almost always return the favor.

Sometimes this will work very well and the females in the place will notice that most of the bar is orbiting me. (Sorry if there is a term already) I have developed the maneuver into the "Gladiator" idea: Win the crowd. Majority of the time I don't even need to approach girls they will either approach me or the Korean males will lure them into my newly-established orbit.

I recognize it is different in other parts of the world but the TL;DR would be practice this at not-so-classy bars/clubs/events as the crowd is generally less-Alpha, so you can build your confidence easier.
