I'm a college student and I'm also part of my college salsa club. Here I am trying relatively unsuccessfully to approach people, especially girls, to become more sociable but then there are a ton of guys who are extremely chill and know pretty much everyone in the club (this is a 50-100 person club). I have only rarely seen them actively approach new people, both guys and girls, and yet they are very popular and everyone likes them. It's like everyone seems to be approaching them instead. I've been part of this club for 2 years now, they see me on a weekly basis for a couple of hours, and they have never approached. I always have to be one to initiate if I want to get into a conversation with them. Based on what I read in this subreddit, I know I need to be the one to approach, but why is it that these people can become so popular while hardly trying.

By the way, these guys aren't assholes or anything. I've talked to them on a few occasions (I initiated) and they are very cool people.
