From the beginning of the relationship you need to establish that you are not seeking a friend. The friend zone is lame BUT I personally broke through it with a girl (though I did flirt with her a lot..) Anyways, there are tons of things here to help you. It's not totally uncommon for guys to either be asexual (as in having no interest in both genders) or to be interested in the same gender without realizing it (no offense, i think the social stigma regarding homosexuality is ridicoulus).

If you think you need a little more intrinsic motivation to engage with women, stop masturbating for a while. While not always easy it pushes me to flirt with women when otherwise I could have been too lazy to invest in a random encounter because I wouldn't think it was worth the effort.
