Pupils dilate from a chemical reaction. Typically fear and adrenaline. My wife had this with her seizure symptoms. I could always see a seizure coming before hand because those pupils blew up. Found out before the split it was a brain tumor. I promise you funny as it sounds no portal to hell. It's the brain detecting a threat and guarantee you do it too. We all do. But if she had other odd behavior for your kids sake I'd suggest she get an mri or eeg. Most mh things are something going on in the brain.

It’s excitation of the sympathetic system… that happens when you’re angry or scared (think of fight or flight reactions). It’s adrenaline mediated.

Twice in my life, once from my ex when we were married and I caught her red handed BSing about something she was supposed to do, swore she did, but didn't. The other time when I came home with a friend early from a hiking trip and we entered HIS apartment, to find another guy jumping out the fire escape.

I heard the Extistential Groan. It sounds like "ZUUUUUUHHHHHHLLLL!" from Ghostbusters. When they're absolutely caught and can't wiggle out.

By the way, the friend's cheating GF came out and tried to pretend everything was fine. My buddy said "Who was that guy" and she said "oh, uh, the Cable Guy."

At the same time, my buddy said "The box is in the living room, not the bedroom" while I said "Nice of the Cable Company to send serviceg guys out on Sunday Mornings!" (On a holiday weekend, I think it was Labor Day)
