I moved to my wife's home country in Europe after the covid lockdowns. Sold our family home (in my name) and came over with our kids to be with her. When we arrived she started saying how much she hated the job she had and due to visa issues I couldn't even consider looking for work for months so became essentially a stay at home dad.

After almost 9 months we realised this wasn't working and decided to return to my country and within seconds of landing my wife was in bits and a complete wreck. After less than two months I gave up my new job and we decided to return to her home country.

Months have passed and due to the situation here it's abundantly clear I'll never get a proper job in the field I'm in paying a salary sufficient in what is an awful housing market here.

I want to return to my country and while she concedes it's the best idea for getting a house, work etc I've basically been told to just "deal with how upset she's going to be" and that it could basically last forever.

We've got 2 young kids and if I could I'd take them in an instant but I feel like I'm sliding into a stage where my wife will openly resent me and that I'm just supposed to sit down and take it.

My wife is hyper critical of me to begin with and while it's been bearable that past year it's been incredibly hard to deal with.

I'm completely at my wit's end because I don't feel I deserve to be treated like a verbal punch bag all my life and being the victim of open scorn constantly makes me feel ill at the thought of it. On the other hand I feel my wife wants to stick it with me because I'll be able to provide her with a house and that things between us might just completely die as a result of that.

I'm so lost.
