In light of the recent progress regarding men’s rights in Norway, I wanted to make a post to address some things.
While most of what the Norwegian council on men and boys came up with was good. It did have its draw backs. The most glaring was that they must emphasize that we must ensure not to detract from the progress women have made. This statement right here is very problematic. The contrast between this consideration for women and the lack of consideration for men at the inception of the women’s movement is the perfect metaphor for how society views us. First, we must make progress for women at whatever cost to men. Even their lives. Second, we might be able to consider helping men, but it should never come at the expense of women. This is the definition of being a second class citizen. As good as Norway might be doing on this issue, they still have not addressed this glaring double standard.
Second. This is something I want people to consider. When has anyone , ever bothered to ask about your personal opinion on gender equality? Exactly. Not once. Rather, most mens experiences are being told that because they are a man, they are privileged and thus have no business talking about gender issues, despite the fact that they are half the population.
The paper claims that perhaps men and boys feel that gender issues are not for them. I wonder why that is ? It has nothing to do with the way society treats them?
Think of it. When in your life has anyone ever considered your opinion for a gender related topic ? Probably not once. Yet, how many times have people excluded you because of your gender?
While this is a step in the right direction. It is far from perfect. Do not allow yourself to be gaslit by people who seem to mean well.
