Today was kind of a slow day at my work and a female coworker wanted to chat with me a bit. I told her I had some curry with tofu over the weekend and then she told me that curry has estrogen in it so I might not want to eat it again if I was concerned for my health. I was cool with this information and kind of joked that it might cause me to lactate. The coworker did not get offended but she advised me not to say anything else because other people over the cubicle wall might turn me in to HR. Is this ridiculous or what? It angers me to think that this is what life in the United States has become. I'm not even an executive at the company or anyone of importance, yet I feel like my career and behavior is constantly scrutinized by our legal system to a degree that is unwarranted and unjust. Why is it that we have to live and work as if we never left high school? What does being an adult mean when you are surrounded by a bunch of cry babies who go to HR at the drop of a hat? I feel that the fact that I cannot make an innocent joke on occasion creates a hostile environment for me at work which is one of the very things sexual harassment laws aim to prevent. Sexual harassment laws are too vague and our government needs to fix them.
