This has been going on for a long time. Feminism acts as a parasite and attempts to control everything. It took got involved in the atheist movement, it's in gaming, and it'll try to dig into any movement that is successful. That's how they gain power and influence. Gamers are fighting back against journalistic integrity, trying to prevent game bans which Feminists try to do, and their trying to protect developer creativity of characters, plot, etc. If Anita and other Feminists have it their way, most games of today would be banned and new games would be made completely bland with no sex appeal and would be completely unrealistic.

Simply put, feminism sees nerd culture as low hanging fruit. Nerds are already easily dominated, so feminism figures it should have no problem taking over that space, right? Of course, the reality is that you should never go into a long war against a group of people who will spend weeks at a repetitive grind to acquire a digital non real thing. Feminists don't have the stamina for this fight. Eventually they will move on to something easier.

It's because gamers didn't go along with their bullshit, it's that simple, we're used to this kind of crap from the religious right. They used to run around screaming about how video games made people violent and so on and of course it was proven false and has continuied to be for years.

The regressive left is the same, they're trying to pretend that gaming causes sexism and violent attitudes towards women. Where have you been by the way? This stuff has been around for ages, feminists were trying to target gamers years ago and they keep failing.

Yes. The answer is because of the lack of mainstream public acceptance and awareness of gaming.

Feminism never gets anywhere attacking TV and movies. Everyone loves TV and movies, and is well aware of them. Accuse the movie industry of rampant woman-hating and the public will laugh, because everyone knows it isn't true.

But accuse the gaming industry, and some people will buy into it. "Oh yeah, a bunch of teenage guys playing killing simulators? Yeah I can see how that became a hotbed of sexism. And these companies cater to them by filling their games with sexist crap!" The narrative is believable by the public, and the media latches onto it because it sounds controversial and grabs people's attention.

Gaming is one of the last bastions where male spaces thrive and overall male attitudes and behavior are free to be expressed. It's all comes down to the colonization of male spaces, you couple that with the fact that gaming is a more interactive medium as media, and you get feminist targeting gaming.

Because gaming is a more powerful media in some ways than movies and books because it is interactive. Therefore they want to use it as a way to push their ideology and agenda down people's throats. In many ways when you play as a character you 'are that character'. In addition to this the game developers skew 'liberal', so they are also seen as an easy target.

Most gamers tend to be doughy beta males who are sexually invisible and easy to manipulate with either the carrot of a possibility of sexual attention, or the stick of being shamed by a woman.

It's just a ploy to create more supporters of feminism. Plus feminists love ruining male spaces.

Sometimes groups are used as convenient scapegoats for controversial issues, and when narratives have to be maintained anything raunchy enough can be thrown under the bus to further an agenda.

imo "Gamers" were probably supposed to be made an example of by neo-progressivism and things didn't quite work out like that because the uber-aggro gamers will actually go to bat for the weeaboo chucklefuck gamers and vice-versa out of sheer principle for the thing and general nerd-camaraderie.

The same bad press that fucked it all up had earlier also illegitimately shat on MRAs when Elliot Roger died

The power structure that is feminism has proven to be very effective at shutting down dissenting opinions to the public opinion desired by that power structure. This opinion suppression model is currently being used against gamers. The gaming community is the first known group to push back against this pressure to conform. In some ways as a group they have been successful against this attempt at opinion control which is very unusual. The opinion forming tactics will continue but will not be as effective as they have been in the past due to the majority of gamers like you who can see what is happening, even if they don't understand why it is happening.

For all their talk of breaking down gender roles, feminists are particularly brutal to weak men.

This blog post is long, but well worth a read. I describes what happened to MIT professor, Scott Aaronson. He's a staunch feminist. But he criticized MIT for deleting the decades of coursework by Walter Lewin, after Lewin was accused (and by the way, we still don't know exactly what he did - it could be a false allegation or something blown out of proportion) of sexual harassment.

Aaronson did not defend Lewin. All he did was suggest that deleting all the coursework was a mistake. In response, a feminist accused him of rape apology and said posts like that are why there aren't enough women in STEM. She goes on to say:

the gropiest, most misogynistic guys I've met have been of the shy and nerdy persuasion

Aaronson then made the huge, huge mistake of trying to defend nerdy guys. He opened up about a painful aspect of his own childhood. He said he was so terrified of offending women that he begged doctors to chemically castrate him.

To the feminist media, that was like blood in the water. Here's how Amanda Marcotte characterized Aaronson's defense of nerds:

[he's saying] "how can women be oppressed when I don’t get to have sex with all the hot women that I want without having to work for it?"

So, she's saying that Aaronson's post is denying that women are oppressed (they're not, but Aaronson didn't deny it) and whining that men are the ones really oppressed and the proof is that Aaronson didn't get to have sex with "hot women"

He said nothing even remotely like that, obviously. But that's how the feminist media responds. It's all detailed in that blog post.

I'm not trying to troll, I found this through looking at someone's post history. But you are wrong. Play any online shooter on consoles and you will hear a mix of misogyny, homophobia and racism. When you kill someone a solid percentage of them will call you a faggot or casually threaten to rape your mom. But if its a woman player, or even a woman avatar, its a threat to rape you instead. Almost any woman portrayed will be designed like a 12 year old's fantasy, the only other women are designed to be vile. Meanwhile you'll have a much wider assortment of male characters. Look I've been playing video games for more than 30 years and I love them, but I can objectively tell you, as a man, that they are sexist and racist (name a black video game character). Pointing that out isn't an attack on gamers, its pointing out that the medium of gaming is not a fair representation of society. After reading through most of this thread I know no one will honestly read this and think about it objectively, but I think I should voice my dissent as a male gamer even if all it'll result in is personal attacks.

They aren't. Remember the gamer identity is largely marketing creation. Part of that marketing is that gamers are bravely resisting censorship. Not in itself an original tactic for marketing to young people. In fact is goes back at least to the early days of rock and roll but hey it works.

Traditionally marketers have been able to wave the threat of some kind of government or other authority censorship with a degree of credibility but that doesn't really work any more. For a random example mortal Kombat Fatalities have become increasingly graphic but complaints about content like this:

Thus you have a bunch of gamers who feel they need to ah “fight censorship” when there just isn't much left (beyond walmart). Playing up a few fairly minor feminist critiques gives them a way to solve this problem.
