I'm amazed they did anything about it at all. When I called DCF on my ex as our children were living in a hoarder home with fucking feces on the floor they basically shrugged and said "as long as the kids have a bed to sleep in and food to eat," there's no real concern. Lots of kids live in horrible conditions this is the first time I've ever heard of any authorities doing a damn thing about it.

Well don't you see, women being the primary caretakers means they should get the children in a divorce. But them being the primary caretakers when children are found living in filth doesn't make them more responsible! The man should have taken charge and stopped her!

Not saying the guy has no responsibility, but women getting pussy passes even when they're at fault really rankles me. Especially when it's children that suffer.

Hi Americans, don't you think it's crazy to put parents behind the bars because their houses are filthy? Wouldn't it be a better idea to consult and in general help the parents - and in this case the mother in particular - to get their lives back on track? (Not that I think that this isn't happening in many states, but because I don't know which ones I stated the question to all citizens of the USA :D )

If this article is correct, then the woman completed several court-ordered classes while incarcerated, and the man did not. It is very typical for judges to shorten sentences when the offender has made progress on their treatment plan.

Now, the man's prison may not have offered the same level of access to classes as the women's prison, and that is both common and extremely unfair.

Incarceration for either party seems excessive to me. The kids weren't hurt and they weren't starved. Taking them away and giving them to Grandma was probably punishment enough for the parents. They should have been given a comprehensive treatment plan that would have taken them about a year to complete if they worked hard at it, and maybe have regained custody if they showed that they had dealt with their mental health issues and learned how to keep the house livable. This kind of situation, in the absence of active drug addiction, is 100% a mental illness thing and treatment can make a huge difference.

Reverse the genders and the mother would be given a lighter sentence for being a "hardworking single mother" and the father would get a harsher one for "being in contact with the kids more without taking action."

The stuff about remorse is all just post-hoc rationalization of the Judge's empathy gap.

This is the kind of sexism that women will seldom, if ever, complain about. Our mistake is in expecting women and feminists to point out what women do that is sexist, in the interests of fair play. But, I've realized that I don't much care how sexist other men are. So, it's time to stop expecting that from women. They like their privileges and they like receiving better treatment than men. And, since they've been convincing each other that men have everything better, men deserve whatever unfairness exists.

See, what they suffer is unfair, while what we suffer is justified by what they suffer. We deserve it. But, they don't deserve any unfairness because of their complicity in sexism against men. It's a self-serving POV.

The judge pointed out Diehl was given a lesser sentence than Weaver because she has participated in several programs, both when in prison and upon her release.

Because they think it's sexist to say a stay at home mum is more responsible than the working husband for child caring.

Even though as someone else pointed out, that's exactly what the family court thinks.

Just don't get married, don't put yourself at the mercy of these donkey judges.
