Women telling men how to be men... what could go wrong?
[β][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's like a fish asking a rabbit how to swim. Or the rabbit asking a crow how to hop.
Rabbit can swim and the crow does hop. But they are not exactly subject matter experts...

Is it? I can't find anywhere where it lists the physical people doing the seminar. It's hosted by the women's center and is provided by LSM-M counseling services (didn't easily find any web page for them).
In my opinion, it'd be super cool of the women's center to open up their doors for men seminars when the space is unusued.
I think this could be super cool or super BS, but I can't tell from the flyer itself.
[β]IVIaskerade 23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This flyer has enough red flags that I'm comfortable saying that there won't be a man in sight leading the workshops.
[β]dontpet 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
If there is a man leading it I doubt they would be sympathetic to the voices on this sub
[β]IVIaskerade 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The person leading it might be male, but there's no way in hell they'd be mistaken for a man.

Ever been to r /menslib? Everything on that poster seems to come straight out of that ideology.
It's part of a two pronged strategy of empowering women and removing accountability for them on one side, and disempowering men and holding them accountable for everything on the other side.
The will promote all the male behaviors that make them submissive and weak, while vilifying all the male behaviors that give them power and agency. They do this by giving examples of how the empowering male behaviors are detrimental to society when pushed to the extreme (almost anything pushed to the extreme is detrimental to almost everything).
They also try to highlight the selfishness of empowering male behavior even when it is not pushed to the extreme. But for healthy human behavior you must be able to act selfishly at time and have the power to back it up or you're going to get steamrolled, become powerless and be of no use to anyone.

You nailed it, thanks.
I think while the language on the poster is different, the criticism of those that use the term toxic masculinity is the same criticism you could use for this discussion.

This kind of "let us fix you!" Crap from feminists is easily recognizable.
I am not broken, don't need fixing and am happy with who I am. Feminists need to focus on their own problems.
[β][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It is at least a step up from female only discussions.
[β][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It is a female only discussion. They are just telling men what to do. Men aren't allowed to talk and especially aren't allowed to disagree.
[β]BlueOrange22 17 points18 points19 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The irony here, feminist saying it should be up to them to define masculinity and male issues. Exactly what they say mansplaining is but in reverse, except now, it's a good thing because feminism is still in control. Purely manipulative and controlling.

It would be fun to attend this "open discussion" and simply ask "Would you find it insulting if the campus 'men's center' held a discussion of men telling women how to be better women?"
[β]The__Tren__Train 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
that's different /s
[β]tenchineuro 18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
What is this, more 'check your previlege' bullshit?
Come on privilege bot, attack!
[β]IVIaskerade 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Positive masculinity is the opposite of toxic masculinity. All masculinity is toxic. Therefore positive masculinity is not being masculine and instead behaving as a doormat for women Q.E.D.
[β]tenchineuro 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ah, then we are talking about men 'checking their privilege', in which men must know their place and serve women.
[β]maxjosephwheeler 11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's a trap. π¬
[β]Lethn 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think feminism can be boiled down quite simply when they talk about men to: How can we avoid talking about men's issues by making it look like we're talking about men's issues?
And that's one of the many reasons why so many people hate them now, they do not give a shit about men and I do not care how many self-proclaimed feminists try to claim they do, when I actually question them and believe me I do they always reveal themselves to be the garden variety feminists who actually believe the shite on that poster and don't talk about any genuine men's issues especially compared to MRAs.

"open discussion" ... never going to happen.

"open discussion"...
[β]whatafoolishsquid 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Make up a similar flier for a women's workshop on how femininity poisons society and see what happens.
[β]Hadashi_blacksky 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And do a flat-out word replacement using the stuff on their website.
[β]ConnorGracie 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We should promote positive femininity.
[β]handklap 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
At the very least, they avoided the usual feminist hate speech terms like "toxic" and "fragile" masculinity and man-verbing insults.
I suppose that's something?
Oh, they'll slip a few into the lecture....
[β]Red_Raven 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm most concerned that this is being run by a Women's Center and that Positive Masculinity is capitalized.
The funny thing is that actual men won't bother attending these workshops because they have neither need nor want of them, so the people who go in the hopes of meeting some good male role models won't be able to.
[β]shadowguyver 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Wait, I often hear women telling me that men have no business telling women how to behave.
[β]_pseudodragon 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
watch how quickly "open discussion" ends if someone says something they don't like.
[β][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Did you go to it u/Vernaculis_ ?
[β]Vernaculis_[S] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
