Hey guys! I spent part of my day catching up on posts I've missed since the holiday season started, such a busy time of year!

Anyways, just thought I'd share my NYR with all you fellow RPW. This year, my goal is to cook 2 new meals each week (aka bettering my cooking skills). I don't think I've ever had the opportunity to cook for my SO since we both have such busy schedules and we spend most of our free time at his apt (since I have roommates). So, I have an easier semester coming up plus have plenty of free time over winter break, and after joining this sub, I'm more motivated than ever.

I'm actually following a beginner's cooking regimen (via 4-hour chef by Tim Ferris - http://fourhourchef.com ). It teaches a new basic skill with each recipe while slowly introducing beginners like me with simple, not-so-scary recipes. I would recommend this book to anyone with a science background, as it breaks down the science of learning in the first quarter of the book.... although the author does seem to get a bit over-the-top sometimes. I bought it on super-sale at amazon.com for $10, what a steal.

I'm hoping to appease my BF's palate, as he has characterized his mother's cooking as "bland" (eek!) - I know I'll have to use refreshing recipes with lots of flavor potential. Right now I have lamb cooking in my slow cooker (my apartment smells delicious!!). My mother worked very hard to make us homemade dinner most nights, so I'll try to keep that in perspective if I start feeling overwhelmed with my goal of 2 nights/week.

Does anyone have any unique New Year's Resolutions, past or present, that they'd like to share?
