Alcohol abuse has a strong history in the male side of my family. I've been drinking very much for the last 15 years until I finally applied the emergency break 1,5 years ago. It was the best choice I've ever made.

I am not an alcoholic by the medical definition, meaning that I never experienced any physical withdrawl symptoms. I've been a heavy drinker though. My job as a chef de cuisine supplied with sufficient excuses, settings and ressources to do so.

It turned me into a weak, depressed, pathetic, fat and phlegmatic piece of shit withoud self-confidence who would always blame other people for his misfortune and could never see his part in it. If you walk around and all you see is assholes it might be the time to reconsider if it's not you who is the asshole.

The problem with alcohol is that the downward spiral is pretty slow in the beginning and the fall will gain pace over time. Since heavy alcohol consumption is often socially accepted and even glorified until the inevitable negative longterm effects kick in and can no longer be denied by your enviroment it will even be harder to see the truth until it's nearly too late.

In the beginning, you are a very welcome guest at just any party but people will start to turn the further more you drown.

If anybody asked me I would say, that alcohol isn't worth the struggle. Nobody's talking about the whiskey-tasting, the red wine to your dinner or even a couple of beers with your buddies at yopur football barbecue. I mean binge drinking and partying as if there's no tomorrow.

I've been living like a monk for a year after I stopped. This was necessary to re-focus on myself. That was the best year for a very long time. I lost 50 pounds, got back on track, discovered TRP and found out that I am not insane after all and that there are other people who share my believes, I stopped playing video games and excessivly watching crappy Hollywood movies (in fact I always feel bad when doing it now since I feel like I waste time, that I could use sto do something useful), started two business which are just taking pace, I take care very much of myself (even doing face masks and all this stuff I considered expendable), look nearly ten years younger than I am, and people - women in particular - behave in such a different way towards me that it is sometimes beyond believe to me.

I wasted at least a decade on that stuff and I urge you to not follow my way. You don't miss a thing in the meantime. Instead use the time to do what you are told here. Take care of yourself and learn anything you want to learn or just be with people you care about. This is much more valueable than drinking yourself to unconciousness and wasting the next one or two days being hungover and too lazy to do just anything.

This is just as extreme as the /r/nofap psychos. Moderation is key in all things.

Reliance upon alcohol for "liquid courage" is bluepill if you make a habit out of it. On your first dozen approaches? Nah.

People are trying to make shit complicated that doesn't need to be complicated. Let's step back a little and just say lack of self control = bluepill. So if you are addicted to alcohol or anything else, yeah.. If you aren't addicted and you can control yourself, chances are it isn't inherently bluepill.

TL;DR - Dumb article. Alcohol is alcohol. Addiction = Bluepill.

"Nofap psychos"

You seem to really have a problem with people trying new things to improve themselves.

Every man has his own weaknesses, and there will always be people like you trying to drag them down when they want to fix those weaknesses.

Skinny guy goes to the gym? He's a loser gym rat.

Fat guy wants to lose weight? He's a paleo/keto nutbar.

Guy masturbates way to much? He becomes a Nofap psycho.

Do you deny that some men have a problem with alcohol? Or excessive masturbation? Or do you just think they should accept their problems, rather than risk becoming a 'psycho' in your eyes?

[–]veggie_girl0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Risk is life. Control yourself and dont' fall into shit. If you do fall into shit, get help, thats what TRP is for. This isn't complicated. When did I mock someone seeking improvement? I didn't. Whiteknight the article harder next time.

Regarding nofap, /r/pornfree is a much better alternative. Masturbation is natural, excessive, again, is not. That falls right back into the addiction category. Porn is a little different though, read yourbrainonporn.

Separate alcohol from the article's argument, and you'll see a few core Red Pill principles:

Don't waste your time. Know yourself and be honest about it. Improve.

[–]ThumoticJonFrost25[S] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If you drink moderately and responsible, you lack the reading comprehension to see that you are not the intended audience.

If you don't think that alcohol is a problem for a lot of young men, I'm guessing you're not American, or you've never been a part of college frat/athletic culture? Do you have any idea how much these people are drinking?

If you DO drink a lot, this comment is just rationalizing your self-destructive behaviour. I know because I've been there and I recognize it.

What are your drinking habits like?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

I hardly drink at all; just out of interest, how many of you are the same?

[–]PFN_LIST_FUCKED6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I stopped drinking and got a job out of it. The owner of the bar I go to needed an extra bouncer. The place is relaxed. I basically get money for standing outside of a bar and talking to people.

Coffee is a good substitute. I found a place I like going to and have made a few new friends. No new partners through it, but the social circle is always expanding.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I quit drinking coffee a while ago, mainly to reduce my sugar intake and reset my ability to stay awake during a working day. Being British, I tend to drink tea when I need a caffeine hit. I do frequent one of my local coffee shops though, I tend to just go for something iced or decaff. Good place to read a book as well.

[–]IamAwaken 3 points3 points3 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm this now. However I smoke too much and use 420 to replace alcohol right now. Ideally I find a way to stop smoking.

I know drinking is worse for me personally. It gives me terrible IBS and really trashes my system if I've been eating clean and lifting.

Hobbies help reduce time that can be wasted on stuff like drinking. One of the best ways to stop is to be too busy doing more enjoyable stuff.

[–]draketton0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago [recovered] (0 children) | Copy Link

I smoke lots of pot as my vice, though unlike you I never liked alcohol

[–]gt35r1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I actually made a thread a bit ago kind of picking at the same question. It's been great for me, I don't have any urge or craving for any type. I used to think, man tonight's a good night to get plastered! Now I ride my road bike so much I don't want to counter all the hard work I put in on it with a night of binge drinking.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I've never been a big drinker. Never smoked, nor tried any drugs. Maybe I'm just boring. I don't really like being out of control, I don't really "get" the whole appeal of being drunk. Yeah I've had fun when drunk before, but I very very rarely drink anything. The last time I was wasted was Oktoberfest last year.

My vice has always been speed/driving.

[–]gt35r1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You and I would get along quite well. I am a big automobile enthusiast myself. Honestly if you feel like those things don't excite you, then you shouldn't be doing them. I haven't even tasted alcohol in 9 months or so now and I don't miss it at all, so I'm content in my decision to keeping it that way. If you ever go to the gym and lift and try to build yourself from the ground up, alcohol is a fast way to ruin all of that.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hah, I should have guessed from the name. What's the gt35r bolted on to?

Same, I feel better all around when abstaining from drinking and it doesn't hurt my conversational skills one bit.

[–]2niczar-1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I rarely drink, mainly because I have a form of narcolepsy/hypersomnia that makes downers hit me like a truck. If I drink more than a couple glasses, I need to take a nap. Or take a few Ritalins. Same with weed, antihistaminics, morphine, many anti depressants and anti psychotics.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I spend most of my time in keto. Other than occasional straight whisky I stay perfectly sober. I feel buzzed enough off of the ketones my body is producing.

[–]FrontTooth2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Im actually confused on the issue. I know im an alcoholic, a pretty functional one, and i quit drugs so I know I have some control. I never drink too much anymore, I might get drunk but Im done with binge/vodka drinking. Now I just drink til I get the goodfeel and some increased courage, thats enough for me. But I also know its hurting me. It makes you fat. It lowers your testo. I worsens the next day. But how would I quit? Everyone does it. Its a great way to make friends. We germanians have done it for as long as we can remember, its our greatest tradition and an esteemed one. I wish that fking drunkpill would come soon so I can do it but stay healthy.

Here's a good goal if you really don't want to make waves with your friends: Just try to always be th guy drinking less than anyone in the room. never be the guy who says "let's get one more round." Finish your drinks slowly and find a reason to slide away when people are doing shots or whatever.

Some of the greatest writers that ever lived were raging drunks.

[–]RedArgonaut2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This makes me wonder if they could have been the greatest ______, if they actually enjoyed their lives and didn't drown their sorrows in alcohol and writing. Or if drinking and writing was the only possible path to greatness for them.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ray Bradbury used to get drink with Dr Seuss. I am not even shitting you. It's a very helpful way for thinkers to escape the pains of the world for a while.

[–]ThumoticJonFrost25[S] 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Life is painful for the psychologically exceptional, and many self-medicate.

Most men are not Hemingway though. For every genius alcoholic, there are a hundred thousand begging for change in the street.

I also wonder just how much these self-proclaimed alcoholic artists actually drink. It's something of a brag, "I made this great piece of art... AND I was drunk."

Google handicap principle.

[–]daktardoom 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Never really had an addictive personality. I used to drink a lot when I used to go out a lot, but once I starting focussing on my career I left that immature shit behind. Now I just like having a drink with friends every now and then. Getting shitfaced as an adult is just sad.

[–]Night--Writer1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've cut back on my drinking but I still sip a bit of scotch a few times a week. Everything in moderation, including moderation.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It’s interesting to note that drugs which make you more confident, contemplative, open to experience, intelligent, and masculine – i.e., Cocaine, Hallucinogenics, MDMA

Uhh... lost me there.

[–]ThumoticJonFrost25[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Have you tried any of those drugs? Or are you just responding based on what you learned from PSAs and after-school specials?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have ... Many times. To argue that MDMA is good for you is utter retardation. Even if you disregard all research... Anyone who has experienced the crash after will tell you that. It is much much worse than alcohol in every way. Same goes for cocaine and the torturous come down where you're willing to do anything to get more.

[–]itsarusko3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This is bullshit.

I like to drink once in a while when I go out to a party, or a big kick back or something like that. I drink 3-8 shots throughout the night, maybe sometimes a couple beers, but I never get WASTED. I maintain a nice 'fucked up' buzz, where I feel good, maintain frame really well, and just have a good time not giving a fuck.

This is about once every two weeks.

I'm not 'turning blue'. I'm not losing frame, i'm not being a retard, i'm not being lazy with the gym. It's not detrimental to my life in anyway. Don't blame the substance, the type of person that would be a fucking retarded drunk, is the type of person that's a fuck up sober too.

Same thing with weed. If you're lazy, stupid, slow, boring without weed, you're going to be lazy, stupid, slow, and boring with weed.

[–]ThumoticJonFrost25[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Wow good for you, you're not an alcoholic.

Let me guess... you're not American? Or did you just not get out much during your college years?

[–]itsarusko-1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You guessed right, i'm Russian, but i've lived in California my entire life. I am living my college years right now, and though I have plenty of opportunities to get shit faced every night, I don't like doing that.

[–]socio_j0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Didnt really read the whole article. IDK, at least FOR ME, alcohol is not something positive. Or to be more specific, frequently drinking or binge drinking. Im sure there are people that can have a drink and not have certain problems (I have yet to meet someone that heavily drinks and doesnt have some sort of dilemma in his/her life). But for me, when i used to drink heavily, i was a complete emotional mess. I messed up relationships with some friends, some women and more importantly myself. Later, i realized that even having a few drinks, made me go all bonkers (feeling depressed and filled with self hatred). What I find really saddening is that alcohol is a prerequisite for social interaction. If you dont drink, you are a pussy, not a man, etc. I sometimes get the feeling that people are so emotionally blocked that the need to drink to be able to communicate.

I read an article of a anthropologist that said that alcohol and other legal drugs, are legal because they are functional to the system, there consumption on the wide majority of the population does not pose a threat to the system, unlike, for example, psychedelics that to pose a threat to the system as people who have consumed psychedelics like ayahuasca, go through "change" and free themselves from their traumas and become quiet critical of the system. The anthropologist also stated that alcohol is pretty much a drug for slaves. As it does not elevate you conciousness, nor allow deeper spiritual connections.

Now while I do not think that alcohol consumers are slaves, however, one must question this whole culture that bases its interaction on alcohol. Anyways, in short, if alcohol is not helpful for your development and you still drink heavily then that is really blue pill.

[–]tallwheel0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Heavy drinking will also shrink your brain, weaken your heart, and eventually lead to chronic fatigue and dementia.

Yes, but not drinking will shrink your balls, weaken your dick, and eventually lead to chronic mangina.

Seriously, no offense to the redpillers here who choose to not drink, but can you imagine Clint Eastwood or John Wayne's characters not drinking and smoking? Men should do what they want. Obviously, moderation is the way to go. If you can get by without alcohol, then good for you. More power to you. I'll keep my beer and whisky though, thank you very much.

I would care about it if I was immortal. I don't really see myself hitting old age where I have to have someone else to wipe my shit anyways
