You might also consider doing something for cardio that doesn't completely suck, like playing a sport or swimming

Discipline > motivation

Build the habit. Its well known that it takes 28 days to build a habit. So don't give up. And keep doing it until it is cemented into your daily routine.

When I used to run (for endurance), I treated it like meditation. No music. Just absolute concentration on my breathing.

I've recently started jump roping. I prefer it now than running because of the rhythm and learning the tricks looks fun and makes me feel like a pro boxer.

For motivation, I normally go to youtube and play a playlist of motivational workout speeches while doing morning stretches, right before workouts.

Why? I have literally never been chased by a fiery bear - any smart man would run from this. I don't recall the decade when I last ran.

Put your shoes on, your shorts on, then go outside and start walking. The motivation will come to you.

Get in motion. Start acting and the motivation comes.

You need to understand why it's important to run?

You move smoothly, you feel more confident in your body movements, tone out every aspect of your body and you're energetic. This should be sufficient motivation.

I hit the gym then run 1mile at the end, 3 or 4x a week.

Run harder? Are you getting your heart rate up and sweating heavy?

I use running for two things:

1) most effective cardiovascular exercise for me in terms of cut and fat burn (biking is a close second but still not as complete)

2) resets your brain chemistry

If you are not experiencing the latter, you're not getting much of the former either, probably because you're not getting your heart rate up enough

And running isn't really fun, just like lifting isn't fun. It's hard work, the satisfaction is how you feel after doing it well and feeling/seeing the results
