I am a newbie, struggling to overcome socially awkwardness and a monotone voice. But I really want girls so am committed to this crazy pickup journey.

I am walking around an outdoor shopping plaza type place. I see this cute girl walking towards and think about approaching but chicken out because there are other people walking around her (I know I know) - Anyways I walk around some more and spot her again, this time I decide to go for it.

I approach her head on, stop her with "Hey I'm totally not crazy but I just thought you were cute and had to meet you." She tells me her name is Emily and we shake hands, she was easily an 8 or 9 but seemed to disagree when I told her she looked cute, claiming she forgot to put on her makeup or maybe insecurity or something. I told her I thought she looked quirky and she asked what that meant. She gives me the dreaded "well it was nice to meet you" and tells me she was on her way to get Starbucks. I am still fearful that by continuing an interaction with a girl she will eventually conclude that I am boring and want to ditch me. So I normally would've showed low confidence and said 'ok see you later', but today I faced this fear of mine, this time I said 'let's go get coffee together' and to my surprise she seemed ok with it.

It was right across the street, we chatted on the way there. I am still new to this, so to avoid some uncomfortable silences I stuck to some flatline conversation about what she does and where she's from. We go inside and stand in line together, being in this situation makes me super uncomfortable with other people waiting in line directly in front and behind you but I held my ground. She tells me she's from LA and I told her I went to school there for music, she thought that was cool and told me to 'teach her'. I try to tease her and say 'oh god you're not going to get a frappucino are you?' She gets a chai tea and I suggest we go sit outside together. We go outside and she asks if I have snap chat and I tell her that I don't anymore. She wanted to take a picture of me for snapchat she claimed, I took this as an IOI but then again as a newbie I could be totally wrong. She takes it over her shoulder of me selfie style, I try to strike a pose but she tells me don't do that and to look 'natural' so she takes it and I tell her to send it to me. She says ok, we sit down next to each other on a bench and tells me to put my number in her phone, she pulls out a second iPhone from her purse, she tells me she likes to travel a lot and one is an international phone but I guess I don't know what to make of that. I have her call me so I have her number now.

I ask to take a selfie together, she claims she doesn't want to because she says she wasn't looking good at all even though she looked absolutely adorable. Are you just supposed to agree with them when they say this shit? Like 'yeah damn girl you look awful, outta my sight haha.'

Anyways, she says she was on her way to study for an exam she had to take tomorrow and that she was traveling tomorrow. I say ok and that we should get a drink sometime to which she agrees.

This is probably nothing for a lot of guys here but was kind of a big deal for me - First time I instantly sat down with a girl, I just wanted to share, thanks seddit!
