The ironic thing is that even if guys were more likely to be harm their children, girls are more likely to bring over unknown guys. (For some reason, I was told by a woman I babysat for that I could invite my boyfriend over, even though she had never met him)

How did the unjust notion that young men are natural sexual predators creep into our culture?

This is the question I have been grappling with for some time. I have no idea how or when this bias became embedded in our culture. It's implicit in anti-rape campaigns like "Don't be that guy" or "teach your sons not to rape" - that somehow rape is a natural predisposition of men, that absent some sort of educational or institutional intervention, all men will be rapists.

I was especially bothered by the Airline Sex Discrimination Policies which prohibited men from being seated next to an unaccompanied minor. The only explanation for such a policy is that given the opportunity, a great number of men will exploit the child for sex.

I understand that the majority of kidnapping sexual predators are men. There is no question that they are. But in no way are the majority of men sexual predators.

For instance, in 2000 and 2001, there were 90 "stranger" abduction reports in Canada - of which only 2 were "true" stranger abductions. Even if we rounded that number up to, say 100 cases of men abducting children, then the incidence of male child abductors would be less than 0.01%. Given this incidence rate - why are even remotely concerned about abductions from planes?

This popular notion that men are sex-crazed lunatics unable to control their own impulses is grossly exaggerated.

The issue with these statements and the bias against men is, what do we do about it? in a place where speaking out against it gets you shouted down, and being ignored, or worse, told to "Man Up" about it. What do we do?

This discrimination against male babysitters is caused by the matriarchy. I think we need to have a quota system to end this babysitter-gap. 50% of babysitters should be male! Same for teachers and nurses!

yeah its amazing how bad it is. I'm a stay at home dad.

One of my good friends from when i was younger lives near me. She has 2 daughters. When she went back to work she needed a sitter and asked if i would ($100 a week for 2 kids woot extra cash!). It was no problem since they were the same ages as my daughter.

People gave her shit about it. They asked her if she was worried about me molesting the girls! She turned it on them by asking questions like "do you think i am such a bad gauge of charector that i would do that?". I knew this girl since 14 and very well (wink wink lol).

it took a while but the other families around here turned how they think. i ended up watching 2-4 other kids too.

though sadly they are all now old enough to watch themselves. though i do have a very good relation ship with the first 2. to the point i get hugs from them and calls telling me when they do something cool.
