It's pretty common knowledge that lesbians are seen in better light than gay men. I know a lot of people that wouldn't give a gay man a second thought but would love to see a few lesbian couples.

Within Canada gays and lesbians are seen as normal couples but in a lot of other places you'll see more violence against gay men than lesbian women.

Homosexuality and the way men and women are treated because of it is an interesting topic.

Men's sexuality is strongly tied to their identity.

Deviation causes loss of that identity(not a real man), among several other ways to lose that identity, most of them tied to the benefit of women.

Meanwhile no matter how gay a woman is, she's still a woman, and no one can take her womanhood from her.

She might be a bean flicking, raging, buzz cut wearing, dyke-a-saurus, but she's still a woman.

But even, hell especially, a man fitting into the ideal of a man, beer swilling, red blooded, hard nosed, fit, who happens to be gay, is gonna be treated worse.

From the methodology section(paraphrased): all incidents are either self reported, or reported through ally organizations which are contacted through the agency.

"hate violence" can be as little as a "symbolic expression of prejudice."

I hate the name "hate crime" it should all just be called crimes. Their motives will come out in the trial but we shouldn't try to tell someone what they were thinking when they committed a crime.
