You need consent every time. Having had sex before, being in a relationship, or even being married doesn't mean that you have free reign to perform a sexual act whenever you feel like it.

If your wife is awake, you make the move, and she goes along with it? Consent, you're all good. If she's awake and she says "honey, stop?" No consent, you stop and you're all good.

If she's asleep and you go through with it? She can't consent, it's assault/rape. Plain and simple.
