Otherwise, yes, I'd say it's something that can't just "be fixed". It's well known that the sheer majority of people don't just 'decide' what they consider attractive, and there's no point thinking of pedophilia as an exception.

And yes, it's very gender-biased.

I always thought that was how pedophilia worked. It's a fetish, right? But instead of anal or bondage, it's one that society will never accept since the subjects of the fetish can't consent.

If I had that fetish, I would accept it and try to live a normal life without harming anyone. I have normal fetishes, but I don't rape people to act them out.

I know females are overwhelmingly more likely to physically abuse children, but I was wondering if anyone has statistics on female pedophilia? Keep in mind that sexual attraction to a teenager is not pedophilia, it's ephebophilia or hebephilia. A pedophile is specifically attracted to prepubescent children, and has no sexual desire for adolescents. I know female pedophiles certainly exist, but I'm interested to see some numbers.

Most sexual offenders against children are male, although female offenders may account for 0.4% to 4% of convicted sexual offenders. On the basis of a range of published reports, McConaghy estimates a 10 to 1 ratio of male-to-female child molesters. However, most researchers assume available estimates underrepresent the true number of female pedophiles. Several reasons for this have been proposed, including a societal tendency to dismiss the negative impact of sexual relationships between young boys and adult women as well as women’s greater access to very young children who cannot report their abuse. Because of the low number of females in pedophile samples, most of the studies discussed below will be drawn from exclusively male samples.

It looks like hard statistics don't exist, which is unfortunate. The assumption seems to be that men are more likely to abuse children sexually and women are more likely to abuse children physically. I guess it balances out. Physical and sexual abuse seem to be about equal in my book.

First, do NOT link to gawker media (jezebel etc). Their business model is based on linkbait sensationalism. Being fast and loose with facts is how they get paid. Instead, imgur or copy and paste the text in the post.

Second, distinguish between what the journalists are saying and what the scientists are saying. What the scientists are saying sounds perfectly reasonable. Don't be anti science when it suits you.
