To be honest: I didn't even know we were that backwards before.

I did. It's what prompted my interest in men's rights.

After I left my ex-husband I started seeing someone else and got pregnant. We found out that because I was still legally married to my ex, that the baby I was carrying was his, would have to have his last name, and that he would have to pay child support for it. Even though all 3 of us were willing to sign anything saying who the father was.

Our divorce came through a month before she was born, but her wristband in the hospital still had my ex's last name on it.

I can't see this as fair at all cause a mother can still deny a father seeing his child(ren) with a supposed "valid" reason. Men should be able to see their kids regardless of status (whether a drug dealer or etc)

It seems to me that this is merely a cosmetic gesture, because men were too clearly laden with responsibilities with no corresponding rights. It was also forced upon them by a EU court case that one man was forced to fight his entire life. Basically it gives you the right to call teachers and doctors, but even if you were to protest a procedure, eg male mutilation, you'd likely be overruled by the mother, the marxist "experts" and the court after much personal expense.

Tldr; Germany is as barbaric as every other western nation

It's still discrimination, because fathers still have to request shared custody.
