Immigration attorney and chapter secretary of the American Immigration Lawyers Association Dick Zonnefeld told BuzzFeed it would be extremely difficult for an immigrant woman to fraudulently gain a visa or permanent residency through VAWA. In order to obtain one of the temporary U visas, alleged victims need certification from a law enforcement officer that their claims are valid. Officials, he says, will decline to certify if they sense even "a whiff of fraud," and there's no incentive for them to certify at all. Any woman who got a U visa by fraud, he said, "deserves an Oscar" for her acting

This is amusing. A civil restraining order is all that a woman needs for "certification from a law enforcement officer". And we know that a restraining order can be obtained without any evidence, or even an allegation of violence. In many jurisdictions, a woman simply has to say she is afraid of what her husband might do to receive a restraining order.

It doesn't take any acting skills for a woman to receive a restraining order based on false pretenses. It's more or less automatic in many places.

NCFM stands for equal rights, nothing more. VAWA discriminates against male victims and their kids both in its title and in various provisions, such as section 904 that excludes American Indian men. It's very title discriminates and leaves male victims invisible as usual. I'm sure you would oppose a title like "Men's Occupational Safety and Health Act" even though 92% of job deaths happen to men. But somehow excluding male victims is ok. The Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) very recent domestic violence study (released 11/11) found: "More than 1 in 3 women (35.6%) and more than 1 in 4 men (28.5%) in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime" and "About 1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner (e.g., hit with a fist or something hard, beaten, slammed against something) at some point in their lifetime." Isn't the real problem that it's so easy for false accusations to result in convictions and not that immigrants are getting visas because of it? I'm totally ok with actual abused women not being deported.

Ronan says women exploit these laws to stay in the US. “They know our laws before they get here, and then they get free citizenship," he claims, while their American husbands face imprisonment. He says this fraud has a domestic source: "The immigrant women wouldn't know how to do it if they hadn't learned from the American women."

I really hope this isn't "its moment". Anything to do with immigration is easy pickins for one side of our political dynamic. And I don't have any sympathy for men who look to take advantage of foreign women because they have a bone to pick with American women.

Even though men's rights isn't a left/right issue, you have got to blind these days to not see how much more Republicans care than the feminist-filled Democratic party. Reasons like THIS are EXACTLY why I will be voting Republican this year.
