Because ooooh, our precious little male egos would be crushed by the mere thought of infertility. You know, we are weak and our entire self-confidence dangles on us being virile and hypersexual and all the other manly, sex-crazed words that we base our worth as men solely on. Also, birth control is the exclusive property of women and it is therefore unmanly and girlish and stuff. Yeah, let the women take care of birth control!

I would be so happy if men had a reliable form of birth control other than condoms. I'm all for more protection against pregnancy, especially since my body rejects most birth controls due to other health problems.

In my opinion, it takes nothing away from women; it just makes the whole act of having sex more responsible for both parties. I have heard the oft-cited complaint that women are seen as the gate-keepers of sex, and that it demotes women to sex-objects. However, if men had control over birth control as well, wouldn't that help equalize this issue? If both parties have equal personal say in protecting themselves against children, it can only be seen as a good thing. You can't complain about being the gate-keepers of sex and then not be willing to give up any control. Counterproductive.

I feel like the media sometimes puts words in women's mouths though, and that fringe groups (who are usually the loudest) give bad perceptions of women. I know among my female friends we are holding our breath in excitement for it to be available!

I love the idea. I'm sure there are fucking tons of guys out there that would love it. My dad got a vasectomy a long time ago and then had to use IVF (expensive as fuck) for my little sister (EDIT: to create her. That sounded kind of weird), so he sure as hell would have appreciated it.

But when they say "men don't want it" - I'm sure they're not that far off. At the current point in time, women take birth control and men don't have to deal with it beyond condoms (which should be used anyway for STDs!). There are lots of guys who want to take precautions against pregnancy, but I think it's more common for men to trust their partner to take their BC and don't want to shift the burden onto themselves. Plus, people generally don't want to be the first subjects of a new treatment because of fears of side-effects and whatnot.

I think the reason it hasn't caught on is a terrible lack of publicity, and that if it became a well-known, common procedure guys would be fine with it.

The bit about Betty Friedan says it all. She stoof up and basically explained that she didn't trust men to take the pill because she thought that men would deliberately want to inpregnate women.

Its another instance of projection here, she thinks men won't take the birth control pill because she already knows that in some instances women won't take it.

All woman I know are for male birth control and can hardly wait for it to be a reality. If i ever go to non-MRA sites to dicuss male birth control it is often the men who are skeptical about it, not the women. That may be hard for MRA to understand, but it is what I see.
