To which I would say, why would men pay for sex:

1) Saves time. Horny - go to sex shop - problem solved.

2) Saves money. Prostitutes are more economical. No wine, dine, movies or gifts.

3) Puts your needs first, unlike real life.

4) Sometimes you just want a women to be nice to you. Doesn't matter if it's fake.

5) No emotional investment needed from the man's side.

6) Don't have to deal with any female baggage or issues.

8 Better experience. If your car needs a service, do you look for somebody to fix it at a bar? No, you go see a professional mechanic.

9) Re Craigslist. Many women understand/operate on the barter system. "I do this for him, he gives that to me". So prostitution is not that a big of a mental jump. Now if a woman is a slut, she does not "gain" anything from her efforts. This leads to some serious resentment and mental issues. Many men do not want to stick their dick in crazy, even though that is said to be awesome sex.

10) No mindgames. Say what you want, negotiate price, et viola.

11) No guilt trips. Despite what you believe most prostitutes are free contractors that chose this job. They make a shitload of money out of it and some even love it.

Having said all of that I do find the idea of a prostitute touching me really disgusting. I have a mild germ phobia and I do see them as cess-pits of disease.

Also if not controlled I believe the sex industry can be damaging to society as a whole. Reducing more men and women to chattel and johns cannot be a good thing in the long run.
