So it was.. I didn't realize I'd brought up the same indiscretion with those numbers twice.

I haven't seen that stat, but, either way, stats aren't beliefs ;) That's why I love them so!

I'm sure my quote is not what those numbers would actually indicate, I just picked it since it goes most against the grain of this sub and, as such, makes a stronger point.

The 2/3's is pretty irrelevant without more info, too. So, we've got a child in a single-mother household is 3 times more likely to be abused. Also, abuse cases across all scenario involve the mother 2/3 of the time...

However, there's nothing saying that of those 2/3 of all abuse cases involving the mother, only .003% of them come from single-mother households. The rest of the single-mother household abuse cases could be people unrelated to the child.

Also, 3 times as likely is a dangerous phrase.

A child from a single-mother household may be 3 times as likely to be abused.... once. The rest of the children may have a lower chance to be abused, but the ones that are abused receive the abuse more frequently and over a longer time span (resulting in a higher amount of overall net-abuse for the child). Of course, that's speculation, but there's nothing in the numbers saying either way if it's right or wrong.

So, without the proper info, it's pretty silly to speculate.. however, if the full numbers are available somewhere, I would be quite interested.
