I always thought that number seemed grossly high. I've been fretting about my 12 year old sister's college experience since. It's good to know that's as unrealistic as I thought it was.... 25% chance? I'd never let my daughter go to school doing that.

Also, if we assume the 2% of men are the sexual offenders stat, then there are 500 guys raping 6250 women in a 50,000 student campus (if we assume the guy/girl ratio=1)

Meaning each rapist on campus is raping ~13 women. MIND BOGGLING

If the "one-in-five" figure were correct, our college campuses would be more dangerous places than the Tadmor Prison in Syria, where the bloodthirsty guards butcher inmates with axes for the fun of it. And, there would be something terribly, terribly wrong with the male gender.

I'm also wondering how they WH is defining 'sexual assault' here. It might not be 'rape' (they specifically refer to 'sexual assault and rape'). Could this be definition drift, where some things that might have been classified as sexual harassment become 'assault'?

Every time I read something about those famous "one-in-x" numbers I'm thinking, male students should start living up to those expectations.
