Maybe it's just me, but it seems the stuff comediennes talk about on stage is exactly the same shit they bang on about all day at home :-

What their friend said about their clothes / makeup.

Their families idiosyncratic behaviour when they have guests over.

Their latest menstruation !!! For FSM's sake, this topic simply does not traverse the gender gap well, men just don't care and just want to keep their heads low until the firing has stopped. When will women realise this ?

Maybe, just maybe, men go to a comedy show to escape from those topics, and hear something different ?

there have been some great female comedians, but like men comedians, I can't name many because it's generally not my interest.

Gildga Radner was fantastic. I've never liked another comedian as much as I liked her, except for maybe Tracy Ullman for the (pre-Simpson Show launch) Tracy Ullman Show days. Rosanne Barr was hilarious, Now, less so. Sarah Silverman can be funny, but overuses sex jokes imho. (Andrew Dice Clay turned me off for the same reason) Rosie O'donnell was funny in her VH1 years, but her politics began to annoy me.

idk. maybe what I liked about Tracy Ullman and Gilda (when I found her earlier work) was that they were both playing teenage & kid characters. That, and I heard, 'let's talk dirty to the animals' when I was about 12 years old. I'd had a teacher who looked a lot like her too, so I could just see Mrs. ProperSitAtYourDesk singing this

Other than having material that sometimes only women can relate to, being easily offended is also a factor that plays a part in some women being completely unfunny.

The main reason is because women are not forced to endure the same kind of hardship that men are. They're right in that it's the material. Look at the material that a lot of great male comedians put up. You'll notice that a lot of it is often about themselves and negative experiences and that they take those and spin them into routines.

Getting offended by almost everything might also play into it.
