EDIT: (All of my posts here were in response to a member named v_giny. If they seem a bit defensive it may be because he has been rage dumping on my hometown for no apparent reason. Once he got downvoted by the community he decided to delete all of his responses. Its almost more fun not knowing what he said and just trying to figure it out by looking at the responses)

I am typing this on the one computer in Des Moines. We keep it in a barn next to our big 'ol sky scrapin' building.

Why on earth would you insult a town you just barely visited before going to Briar Patch? (A patch of land commonly populated by neo-hippies and 18 year-olds who want to get hammered and take ecstasy)

Never mind that Des Moines made Forbes' #1 City to do business in. Or that we are a huge test market, meaning we get new products or advertising well before the rest of the country. I agree there are crazy people here, but there are crazy people everywhere. I love how this story shows us that doing the right thing doesn't always pay out and we also don't have the entire story as to what exactly caused the crazy father to chase this kid down. Yet for some reason you try to blame this insane behavior on a "backwoods" city because the friends you have here didn't take you anywhere fun. I don't get offended often so congratulations sir.

I can do you one better. I worked for Wells Fargo for 5 years in leasing and they would fly us into Des Moines for training and shit all the time. I was even intereviewed on the street once for their City View or maybe it was the Onion. I forget, but they ran my picture and asked me some stupid question. We used to always joke about Iowa because it is supposed to be the meth and STD capital of the US. I met some super hot chicks from Mason City once and was scared to bang any of them because one was a meth dealer and she had these scars on her face. She told me it was from the restaraunt she worked at that had a can of nonstick spray by the grill and it exploded on her. I highly doubt that. She was in some kind of meth cooking accident. Scary stuff.

Don't fuck with these people, they are probably drug dealers. Iowa is no different than any other place around there, Oklahoma, Nebraska, whatever.. it's all just simple folk. You got them riled and now they're going to do whatever it takes to get you riled too, yes, lying included.

I can see where you are coming from and I really am done with this troll. I don't feel the need to be on the defensive here as you can clearly see my tone and structure in my posts and they just don't match the abusive quality this guy is suggesting.

However as a point I did only edit one of my posts and I clearly marked it within the post as an edit. This was in response to v_giny deleting his posts.

If people are really interested in who said what or who is lying they can just look at the posts and where the deleted comments fit in. There aren't any deleted comments following deleted comments so his little theory that I deleted all mine doesn't quite work out. Besides no one else on Earth cares what 2 pissed off nerds are saying to each other on the internet.

We also have residents with Bosnian, Laotian, Chinese, Japanese, Croatian, Kenyan, Sudanese, British, etc accents. I think I can honestly say people native to Des Moines do not have any southern drawl in their speech. We DID take in a large number of refugees from New Orleans after Katrina and a lot of them decided to stay. Perhaps you ran into a few of them so now to you all Iowans dun tawlk wuth a suthurn drawl. (Tried to find a good way to type drawl but its pretty phonetically sound. Also as a point most people I meet from New Orleans don't have that thick of an accent)

My overarching points to you are as follows:

-Stop pretending like you are better than other people. -Stop using your limited experience and close mindedness to spread lies and slander about a place I choose to call home. (Key word: Choose) -Stop the defensive rage and respond with well thought out statements or you will most likely go down in flames.

I've lived in towns and cities of all kinds. Grew up in Philadelphia, lived in a small hamlet of a town in central PA, spent a few years in Shreveport, and several other places with varying levels of development. I currently live a few miles NW of Des Moines, and have been doing so for five years now.

I can honestly say without any doubt or hesitation that Des Moines is the best place I've ever lived in my entire life, and that your review of the city is way off. The character of the people here is great; most of them are intelligent, nice, caring, and very up-to-date on current events, culture, and technology. Des Moines is home to some of the largest banks and insurance companies in North America. It has a very active entertainment scene, great art and music festivals, and numerous other things that other cities (with more skyscrapers) are lacking.

Des Moines was rated the #1 best place to raise children in the country. West Des Moines was named one of the top 100 places to live in the country by CNN. Last year, Urbandale was named the same. In years past, Clive, Windsor Heights, and Waukee have been given similar honors. All of them are suburbs of Des Moines.

It says much about you how the only people near Des Moines you had any dealings were hillbillies and hippy kids.

In your original post you said you stopped this last weekend, indicating to me that you were in town for a few days, at least one of them camping at Briar Patch.

Des Moines county is in the far south eastern corner of Iowa. Polk county is where Des Moines resides. Des Moines county almost borders Missouri so I can maybe see where you might pick up a little southern influence.

I asked you if it was ok with you if I associated with those people since you were so keen on labeling who i spend time with. That would make me racist how? Before it was "possibly racist" now it's "a little racist." You can't even keep track of your lies. What a fucking hillbilly.

Still not sure why questioning whether or not your comment was racist and then stating that it came off as a little racist would indicate me switching my story and/or lying.

All in all, if you are heading to Iowa to go camping in the backwoods and drink strawberry soda (WTF does that have to do with anything?) you will most likely run into some backwoods people in these backwoods areas you frequent. Just stop ripping on my town when you clearly don't have your facts right and/or don't want to pony up any specific names or establishments or where the hell you were.

In fact I'm going to try your method:

Man, I was on the moon the other day. That place sucks! There's no cheese, their rovers are out of date, and they only have a Howard Johnsons! Then they made me eat some sort of thing that no one has heard of and I hated it.
