Look at the pdf. Most abuse done by biological mothers and their boyfriends (not fathers of child). Together they comprise around 75% I think, from the figures.

Yes, sexual abuse seems to be mostly men, but non-biological to children. Sexual abuse seems to only be about 3% of all abuse, so although it is a serious thing, it is a small part of the abuse and neglect that occurs to children.

Mandano, obviously you don't like to read. The solution has been articulated many times. And no one is stating that women are bad. This may be your own misconception, but it has nothing to do with what is being said. Simply said, women are AS bad as men, but sole custody is the biggest cause of child abuse.

Promote shared parenting and there is greater transparency, and hence less opportunity for child abuse.

Yes, the figure is the joint "mother abuse + mother's boyfriend abuse."

Its about 75% to 80% across most western countries like NZ, USA and UK, as well as Australia.

These figures are hard to get because most of these countries group males & fathers together, giving the impression that biological fathers are the biggest abuse group, where in fact biological fathers are the smallest abuse group.

And yes, males are over-represented when it comes to sexual abuse of children, but again the biggest group here are the mother's boyfriends, not the biological fathers, and the percentage is only a very small component of overall abuse.

I'd need to see the statistics for ALL single parents, and then compare using the ratio of male/female single parents, if we're going to compare the sexes.

In response to zombiecyborghitler, YES, the majority of children are with women, more precisely, with single mothers.

Most credible thinking on this says that this over-representation in child abuse is because sole custody lacks the transparency and checks and measures of a dual-parent family. It therefore has nothing to do with gender, but with the lack of child protective measures that sole custody offers.

This is where shared parenting comes in to it. Shared parenting arrangements have the lowest levels of child abuse of all family arrangements, in part because of the transparency of child care.

These figures are a really powerful argument for the benefits of shared parenting post-separation as a standard, as opposed to the current sole custody fixation of most western nations.

If you take a look at the pdf which appears to be the sole source for the study, you will see that although women are largely responsible for emotional abuse and neglect, the majority of sexual and physical abuses are attributed to men.

does it really matter who did the abuse? I hate how this subreddit's post are always like "look! women are as bad, or worse than men" instead of actually doing or saying anything that could help fix social problems like alienation, or in this case child abuse.

Yeah, women are as bad as men. Duh. Now stop dicking around and feeling self-satisfied, and actually do something that'll fix the problems you're complaining about.

These figures are not a poor reflection of women or mothers. They are a poor reflection of sole parenthood, in terms of the overall welfare of children.

There is no perfect solution for these issues, but this provides a solid argument against those women's groups who argue against shared parenting laws because of what they claim are inherent risks to children.

This is obviously nothing more than folly, but these figures underline to what extent this argument is nonsense.

It is clear that it is sole custody that creates such risks for children, not shared parenting.

This is like saying most penis injuries happen to men. The sheer numbers dictate that the most abuse is done by women. Most of the kids are with them most of the time.
