This is horrible. They are actively trying to cover for this Woman by suggesting "the boys liked it, it can't be that bad... see they high fived!" and that "her troubled past makes this all better". I've come to accept this as the usual way new papers behave when Women are in the wrong but to then find in the links to related articles below the case of a boy who raped a girl at a party in front of everyone.

This case draws a dark parallel because it is a teen boy who had sex with a teen girl at a party when she was passed out. There are next to no details about the boy, his thoughts, was he drunk, is he from a troubled home, did he know she was passed out? if it was obviously rape why did none of the 10 other children stop them?

No they just cold and plainly listed the act and the actions being taken against him. No trying to cover him by saying "he is young, troubled and drunk" yet this 41yr old hag gets that benefit.

I'm not here to argue the case itself as there are no details. I'm arguing the way the newspaper handled these two cases and how the one with a mature adult woman got a lot more sympathy than the one with a teen boy.

This is sickening.

The difference that most people see in these cases is that the woman is the do-ee and the man is the do-er, so they assume it would be much harder for an older woman to really "force" or coerce a young male into sex, relative to an older man forcing or coercing a young female into sex. I'm not saying this is a "right" interpretation - but it is how most people would differentiate between the two.

Society also values female virginity far more than male virginity, due to thousands of years of patrilineal decent in most civilizations. So that comes into play in these types of stories as well - a de-virginized young woman is "ruined" a de-virginized young man gains status.

So there's obviously some hypocrisy here, but I'm wondering how you guys think this should be viewed. In other words...

Should women like this one be considered "wrong" and be punished (despite the high fives)

OR

Should men in similar situations be judged according to the scenario (i.e., if the underage girls are giving each other high fives, no punishment is required)... this option could possibly be analogous with lowering the age of consent and/or adjusting how it is applied.

This all depends on what happens at trial. If it turns out that the kids talked her into it, while she was drunk, which really does appear to be the case, than I don't think the law should be so harsh.
