A break from the misandry, for 5 seconds. Just to give us all hope that #notallwomen hate men (but enough to make men scared)

This odious woman was a nobody before the media storm. Her book was edited at 2.500 copies by a confidential editing house for extremists.

She only became famous because some mid level government guy made a fuss about having her book banned for hatespeech. She said in an interview it launched her career.

She's a troll, who is not to be fed.

And the interview is hosted at The Guardian. Quelle surprise

Women do have the right to not like men, but that doesn’t mean they’re immune to having their misandry called out for that either.

I was about to say something like this, but you already said it.

[–]Reasonable_Amoeba_89[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I disagree. I think it's sexist bigotry. Do people have the right to not like black people? Do men have the right to not like women? That's stone age thinking and thankfully we've all moved, mostly...

[–]starspider 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yes.

You have the right to like or dislike whomever you please.

What you don't have is the right to treat them poorly or unfairly just because you don't like them. You must be extra diligent about being fair but we don't police who people like.

You have the right to like or dislike whomever you please.

Sure, but basing your dislike on race, religion, gender, colour is prejudging someone. I.e. being prejudiced.

[–]starspider 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

This is correct.

You're not allowed to lie to yourself about whether or not you are prejudiced and not allowed to treat people poorly or unfairly.

We can't control people's thoughts. That's wrong. You can ask them to control their behavior and hope that common sense sets in when they demonstrably see their prejudices proven wrong.

That's the ideal.

I'm an optimist that education and experience can fix bigotry. Whether that's showing racists that POC aren't bad, or misogynists that their behaviour is backwards & stupid or misandrists are just as bad as misogynistic men.

I believe people can overcome their prejudices and I also strongly believe prejudging and entire people based on race, religion, culture, creed, gender is stupid and backwards.

Having read Reddit though, it's clear I'm in the minority, a hippy from a different era and that most modern people thing prejudice and bigotry is absolutely fine. That's sad. Unfortunately you are just one of many people who believe prejudice is absolutely fine...

[–]starspider -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Actually I never said prejudice is fine.

I said you're not allowed to tell people what to think. You're not allowed to try to control someone else's internal dialog. It's never going to work unless you convince them anyway.

You can't shame people out of prejudice. You can only educate and then take away their ability to inject their prejudice into the decision making process.

I'm sorry to hear that you've got a bad habit of putting words in other people's mouths.

We can't control people's thoughts.

QED Being prejudiced is fine by your standards. I don't share those standards. Trying to pull people, kicking and screaming, out of their ignorance, bigotry and prejudice. That's a loan voice on reddit.

Look you are actively promoting it's fine for people to be misandrist and hate people because of their gender! Think about that. You are part of the problem.

Where do you personally draw the line? Racism? Agism ? Sexism (we know you think that's sort of OK) ?

[–]starspider 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are allowed to feel how you feel, buddy.

You just aren't allowed to be a dick.

End of story.

To be fair, if you read her view on the subreddit then it is all quite reasonable & what she reads I'm very pro. Powering up women, sharing experiences.

She obviously manages to gloss over the outright misandry i.e. the parts where women advocate men kill themselves, refering to men as scrotes and the outright hatred on there. Which is, coincidentally, the bits that men object to. The rest of it, the concept of it as a subreddit, I fully buy into and support.
