Of course, it's worded as making it more gender neutral. The gist of it is that they need to lower taxes for lower income workers because all those poor women on low incomes.

Rather than just saying that poorer people need a break. Which most people would agree is a good thing. But here they fan the fires of gender Olympics.

They even say that the tax system cannot be considered gender neutral if women are not given the same tax breaks as men. What's really happening is that higher income workers are getting a tax break, but because everything is required to be about the presence of or lack of a uterus, they're spinning it to be a tax system that benefits men at the expense of women.

If anything can be considered gender neutral, surely a tax system based on income would be it?

Between the lines, what I really like is the acknowledgement, however tacit, that they don't want to solve the problem by allowing both men and women equal time off work for babies. Instead, they'd rather keep the status quo of women taking time off work, requiring men to work, and then get a tax break because of the decision they were forced into.

Treating the symptom instead of the underlying cause.
