It's easier for Women to find good jobs; yet Men are still systemically oppressed into being providers. Add to that that it is easier for Women to find a partner. How are Men supposed to compete? Especially since Women can also reproduce without a partner while Men can't

Maybe controversial opinion, I'm in favour of UBI, but not actually in favour of subsidizing having children in a world where having a child is a woman's choice at every stage. I think it just encourages irresponsible and reckless decisions to have kids. If your income is not enough for a child, don't have one, and if you choose to have one and keep it, and neglect it, you are opening up the possibility of being considered an unfit parent. I believe in giving people a safety net for situations they can not control (and so there should probably still be welfare options in place for extenuating circumstances) but I think we need to hold our current welfare systems up to scrutiny for encouraging and enabling dangerously irresponsible choices that damage the next generation. The single mother using her kids as vanity trophies, plastering them all over instagram, and for a boost to her own finances (often at the cost to a man who was shocked to learn he was a father because she intentionally skipped her pill and has no involvement with the child) while she neglects her kid's welfare to indulge her own interests, is a perfect example of this.

[–]mhandanna 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I gre up in a neighbourhood were people were openly having kids purely for welfare payments, and pretty openly discussig it and sharing tips etc

[–]TC1851[S] 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

If your income is not enough for a child, don't have one

I disagree. We are poorer than in generations past despite producing more wealth. I see it that people have a right to reproduce. What we need to is equalize the say so that men get the same reproductive access that women do. If Father's, for example, are given equal say in raising the kid, we will have less women using kids as a money making tool as they will have to split child support and custody with the Father. I do support things like requiring receipts on child support spending and there are problems, but I cannot support a blanket do away with child support / subsidies. Cost of living has gone up and kids are expensive, particularly in a world where we now need 2 incomes to support a family. Ideally, we should halve the workweek and reduce the cost of living, but barring that, we need child benefits more than ever

[–]C0dey -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is about the child, not the selfish parents stupid enough to have them when they cant look after themselves. A child deserves to come into the world with parents who can actually look after them. Those who have children while being unable to look after it financially are pieces of dirt deserving of condemnation.

[–]vorhex 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In a society where only those with generational wealth and inherited privilege can purchase homes and afford child care, what you’re suggesting is eugenicist.

How you can claim to be a leftist and despise poor people this much is beyond me.

[–]C0dey 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Had nothing to do with the poor, just dumbasses who think its okay to stunt a life that hasn't been born yet by having a child they can't afford. You don't need to be wealthy to take care of a child, so what you're saying is a bunch of bull.

[–]peanutbutterjams -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You made an imaginary example in order to justify ceasing benefits to mothers who have in no way been proven to be the kind of mother you just pulled out of your ass.

As OP has implied below, this is a classist and ageist opinion. Young people have less purchasing power than the previous generation in an increasingly unstable job market in an increasingly unstable reality.

Removing those benefits wouldn't stop those people from having kids any more than capital punishment stops people from committing crimes. All you'd be doing is punishing those kids.

Men's Rights is not "the Main Sub".

[–]vorhex 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There’s a reason why consumer goods have become more affordable over the years while wages have stagnated, social welfare has declined and the cost of housing and health care have skyrocketed.

[–]TC1851[S] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

That meme needs to be taken down

  1. This is against the sub's own rules

  2. This is nothing to do with Men's Rights, and is simply an r/libertarian or r/Conservative demonization of the poor. It does a disservice to the poor, who are in fact more likely to be men

[–]Oncefa2left-wing male advocate 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

They have a lot of memes passing under the Humor tag right now that should probably be on r/MRAMemes instead.

I'm not going to criticize them or anything though. It's just an observation. Sometimes people get upset about the selective removal of memes. I figure the mods just have trouble getting to all of them so some end up making it through. After which point there's already a lot of discussion in the comments.

I see the relevance of this one to men's rights but I'd frame it in terms of the government needing to provide adequate welfare for people who need it instead of treating fathers like wage slaves.

Edit: This problem is itself responsible for creating a kind is poverty for fathers... you can actually break this down and show how mothers receiving child support and welfare usually have more disposable income than the fathers with higher incomes on paper. These fathers should in theory qualify for welfare if their child support was taken into account (whereas at the same time the mother would not qualify after her child support payments are taken into account). The end result is that in practice the father is far worse off financially than the mother.

I agree. This is a problem. Particularly now in the US where alimony is taxable by the payor and inncluded in the payor's income. This needs to be fixed.

It's not our poor shaming...

It's calling our hypocrisy...

Have you ever seen someone claim they can't afford X while getting tattoos and buying drugs? I have. Plenty.

If you can afford drugs and tattoos, you don't really need help you need to make better choices.

That's what that says.

[–]TC1851[S] 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I agree. I have seen it. People buy make-up and branded clothes and Uber rather than bus everywhere and complain about cost of things. But fundamentally, this kind of attitude is overused. The idea that discretionary consumption has gone up is a myth. We are working harder but are poorer than people 1 and 2 generations ago.

Regardless, this is a societal and economics discussion, not a men's issue per se

[–]TerminusStop 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Try reading the top part.. That's clearly referencing men's issues...

Child support.. State assistance... Who do these overwhelmingly go to?

Men, right?

[–]Appropriate_Box 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah. And if millennials only stopped eating avocado toast, they'd all be debt free in no time, right?

[–]TerminusStop 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. And if millennials only stopped eating avocado toast, they'd all be debt free in no time, right?

Did I say that? Nope. I said that some people spend money on luxeries and also complain about being broke.

Those are contradictory.

[–]joeclark5 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

It's true even though it's politically incorrect to say it. I've never seen a person on welfare who didn't smoke.

[–]pyschoandie 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Yes but der r ppl (few) who put der habbit behind der kids. Its penny pinching n managing nesssicities

[–]C0dey 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Its ok TY for ur kindness i expected bullyin 😄

[–]Sonic-Oj 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No idea why this is getting downvoted. Isn't this supposed to be a "left-wing" sub? This is just a conservative strawman.

[–]YuenHsiaoTieng -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

My contempt for breeders is strong enough to let this stand. We should do everything we can to level out class differences but without incentivizing having children. This meme is only anti-poor in the same way taking away coal industry jobs is. The planet has to come first.

[–]pyschoandie 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I don't mean to b a dick im queer myself but is da slur breeder appropriate in dis context?

[–]YuenHsiaoTieng 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I guess that's for my downvoters to decide. I will defer to them.

[–]pyschoandie 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Im not downvoting u currently i dont really do dat i just don't upvote, im just asking for some self reflection. Believe me da straights can suck n wen attacked n called f@gg*t ill through dat shit back n call dem a breeder but here i see no hostility

[–]C0dey -2 points-1 points0 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's hardly a slur, just an accurate term for those who constantly breed.

[–]pyschoandie 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Allright we agree to disagree

[–]C0dey 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is not "poor shaming". This is shaming those stupid, selfish, and irresponsible enough to have kids when they can barely afford to look after themselves.

[–]a-man-from-earthleft-wing male advocate 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

1) That is not the "main sub". This one is. Many people are here because they do not feel represented by prevailing views there.

2) It is not poor-shaming. It is irresponsibility-shaming.
