A large part of this is because female criminality was ignored or excused for much of history. When women were put on trial for crimes they committed, they tended to become the victim on the stand and in public opinion. The more equal society gets, the more that female violent behavior and criminal behavior is being paid attention to and taken seriously. This gives the impression of a huge increase in female violence and crime.

Increased movement in society also influences this. In the past, women didn't work and remained mainly inside the home. This presented fewer opportunities for crime and fewer opportunities to cause mayhem in general. Medieval Karens had less opportunities to act.

There isn't much evidence that women were necessarily kinder in the past than they are today. They just have more opportunity to do harm and their behavior is more likely to be taken seriously.

Borderline personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder are often caused by childhood trauma like emotional neglect or emotional/sexual abuse or abandonment by a parent. Trauma is not mandatory to develop such personality disorders because apparently there's a genetic component, but trauma can definetly play a role. Since a lot of children grow without a father figure I think a correlation might be possible.

The worst fear for a person with BPD is fear of real or perceived abandonment.

That's a good explanation of why Karen's are primarily female. Female entitlement taught by society has led them to believe if they scream loud enough they will get there way.

I think as the media keeps pushing the narrative that women are better, smarter, that they can do no wrong. I think narcissism will go up from an already very high level.

It may not even be a mental disorder in the strict sense. When society shouts in your ear all the time you deserve nothing but the best, you can become and get anything you want, anything you fail in is patriarchy's fault, especially in a conflict with men it is virtually impossible you are to blame and you should always stick together with other women, it is hardly abnormal to believe these things more or less. It is very harmful just the same. I also got the impression more and more, women don't feel obliged to behave responsibly, trustworthy or carefully towards men and often don't see it as a big deal not to, even when they haven't an especially nasty character.

There has also been an explosion in female depression and anxiety, perhaps there is a link.

I call myself a healthy narcissist, and I can 100% tell you that for me it came from a mix of emotional abuse and over praise. My dad was a mean drunk and my siblings and I routinely found ourselves avoiding him and even despising him while In grade school. My mom however told us all of the time how special we were and constantly compared us to other kids and pointed out how exceptional we are in things like school, looks, and behavior in general. My dad was my softball and basketball coach for years and always made sure I was the best at everything, using pretty strict discipline if I did something ‘wrong’. Anyways, I recently discovered that my sister and I share a dissmissive avoidant attachment style as well as covert narcissism. Because we were raised to have high self esteem and also influenced to depend on ourselves, we now have narcissistic and avoidant tendencies. Thought this might be an example for those who are saying general emotional abuse may be the cause.
