I don't have a huge amount to say on this case. Ultimately the daughter committed suicide as a result of the prosecution going ahead. It was unfortunate, and I understand why her mother would be so upset. That said, I do find it bizarre that her opinion on this subject is even being published. Would anyone countenance for a second that a male domestic abuser should not be prosecuted because it may affect his mental health? It's just another example of a culture that demands that women be shielded from the consequences of their own actions.

Shows that the mother has no idea what she's talking about - you can't accept a caution without admitting guilt.

I don't think she was actually convicted of domestic abuse. As I understand, she was being prosecuted for domestic abuse. There is obviously a huge difference there. But I also think there is a large difference between how men who are prosecuted for cases like this are treated, and how women are treated. At the same time the fact that she is in the public eye gives it a different treatment.

It is important to realize that before someone is actually convicted - or acquitted of a DV crime, they end can get convicted in the public eye. It is not surprising that a case involving an influential beautiful woman starts the conversation on this. Although the case of Johnny Depp getting abused by Amber Heard is also pretty up there.

If this is an accurate report of court records, somebody stated before a judge that the assault was serious and caused significant injury and was caused by a lamp.

I think we need to ask an English person to help us find the transcript of court statements. Are transcripts public?

Did she admit hitting him with a lamp or not? If she him him with something light that caused only a minor cut, I can buy the idea of making it a misdemeanor with community service.

But the prosecutor seems to directly contradict the mother's statement. If she never mentioned a lamp, or if there's no physical evidence of the lamp hitting him, maybe he's wrong.

Someone isn't telling the truth, and I hope justice was done. The prosecutor needs to clarify this: is there evidence that a heavy instrument was used to apply trauma to the victim, or is the mother's statement true?
