They're not defending it. They just think it's men who are pretending to be women because they believe women couldn't be that hateful since 'women are wonderful'. In other words, they're sexist in that peculiar liberal feminist way.

Poor example OP. They aren't defending that sub. What they are doing however is classic "women are wonderful" rationalizing as to why that sub exists in the first place. They think the sub is for men LARPing as women because they cannot imagine women being shitty like men. It says a lot about their understanding of people and how sexist and condescending they are to women.

I do wonder if they would defend FDS more if the sub was more feminist-mainstream on trans issues though.

The entire post itself is exposing that FDS is a hate sub that is transphobic, doxxes people, encourages social isolation and separates women into groups. It is not defending FDS, it's clearly and explicitly calling them a hate group.

Now they clearly miss several points. For one, they don't call out the misandry of the subreddit and only focus on the ways it hurts women (outside of the doxxing examples). And some of the comments promote a conspiracy theory that it's just a bunch of male incels creating these posts because they can't imagine that women would be so hateful.

Those are embarrassing oversights on behalf of the sub but they still are not defending FDS.
