I first wrote this as a reply comment to another post by u/vanillahcupcakes, but I received enough positive feedback to feel that it deserved to be written up as an original post...

It's basically my thoughts on 'The Karen'. I understand that many people see the word as a slur that should be taken out of circulation. I also understand why it is a problematic term that has been co-opted from its original use to shut down any woman who is standing up for herself. BUT, I wanted to actually post a defense of its usage in context of, as u/ndrpeaches puts it "the whole spectrum of unpleasant social issues of what Karen represents. Racism, social class, privilege, systemic injustice, misogyny"

White men managed to recruit white women into their race based hierarchical rhetoric by promising them prestige and status above minorities. It was considered a decent trade-off for white women to be delegated second class citizenship compared to white men because white women were still higher in the hierarchy compared to POC, and would have their status protected by white supremacy establishments.

White women were therefore recruited to become the social watchdogs of white supremacy where they could, and would, bark and snarl at POC who got too 'uppity' and 'above their place'. White women held no real power except the power to call on The White Establishment for 'rescue' whenever they felt their status being threatened. Meanwhile male white supremacists gleefully doled out the violence egged on by their lady watchdogs.

These days, these white supremacist ladies are suddenly discovering their watchdog status being not only challenged, but also openly recorded, mocked and shamed. White men still practice violence against POC bodies, but they (barely) hide their race war violence behind Rule of Law such as police brutality, a hypocritical double standard justice system and national policies that shove POC out of opportunities to climb the social ladder.

It's pretty telling that it's the (relatively) powerless white women who are being made into jokes and memes, while the White Supremacy Establishments used to prop them up are still running strong in resources and respect.

The prevalence of 'Crazed Karen Videos' is one of the first signs that White Supremacy is losing its power over American society. The White Supremacist men are still desperately holding onto their monopoly on violence on POC bodies, but they don't have the power to spare for their watchdogs anymore. Instead they're abandoning their white supremacist women to be publicly shamed.

I'm not going to cry over the Karens who are shamed for calling the police over a POC child selling lemonade in 'white neighbourhoods' because F them! But I do think it's disgusting that the 'Karen' moniker is being weaponized by men to call out not just racists, but ANY woman who just says 'no' or challenges any form of male authority in general.

I look forward to the day when the Male Driven Establishments of Race Violence ALSO become shameful jokes and memes on par with the 'Karen recordings'. But, until then, keep fighting the good fight!
